The world is changing fast. Virtual Conferences and Virtual Tradeshows will become the new norm during and after COVID. Many companies are leveraging Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality to scale their marketing efforts during these turbulent times

Modern times call for modern solutions

The one thing we’re all craving at the moment is connection - especially those
that are isolated alone.
Social isolation might be the new normal, but that doesn't mean you can't attend
industry events and tradeshows.. With so many people around the globe
sheltering in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the one constant has
been the unifying power of content and networking, with offline events
transferring to the virtual world, brands can still connect with consumers whilst
experiencing the event from the safety of their couch.
What will this mean for the event scene in general even after the Covid-19
pandemic ends?
Nothing will ever replace live events. But it does seem like this shift to virtual
concerts was going to happen at some point regardless. People who can’t make it
to events or tradeshows— either due to finances, distance, or responsibilities —
can now take part in these magical events from the comfort of their home.

Different types of VR experiences... the benefits,
trade-offs, and considerations
6
360° video
Benefits:
Simple start to finish experience
with a set duration. Minimal setup.
assistance and performance
requirements. also possibly easier
creation workflow.
Tradeoffs:
30oF is less immersive (only rotates
left right. up and down) with no
positional tracking so head
movement can feel off.
Considerations:
Highly accessible for mass
distribution for all
mobile/standalone headsets, but
also available for desktop PC VR.
Virtual Environments
Benefits:
Enables interactivity & positional
tracking for highest quality of
Immersion and less prone to
motion sickness.
Tradeoffs:
A high/wide range of production
costs. Requires powerful PC and
graphics card (min. GPO: GTX 1060
or RX580). additional setup.
calibration, and equipment.
Considerations:
Headset cable management. user
learning curve (interface,
controllers); additional possibilities:
photogrammetry 8 volumetric
video.
Free Roam, Untethered
Benefits:
No wires or cables for the user to
trip up on that provides complete
freedom or movement.
Tradeoffs:
Battery charging times. extra
equipment required (vr laptop
backpack). complicated setups
requiring device tracking (Will
networks. tracking sensors. or the
like).
Considerations:
New standalone headsets with
inside-out tracking provide simpler
setups for more straightforward
use (Vote Focus. Oculus Go. Lenovo
Mirage Solo. Pico Nee 8 Goblin).
Multiplayer
Benefits:
Higher throughput, enables social
experiences and multiplayer game
mechanics, competitive and
cooperative gameplay
Tradeoffs:
Network latency can cause
performance lag, larger space
requirements
Considerations:
Not a lot of existing multiplayer
content
Passive or Interactive
Considerations.
While game engines can enable
interactive content that generally
increases immersion and realizes
other benefits of user agency, more
passive experiences can also be
designed in game engines with
high impact that still take
advantage of a relatively linear
storytelling approach that can
even utilize positional tracking for
comfort and exploration (e.g.
Google Spotlight Stories).
7. Creating
Interactive &
Immersive
Experiences
The one thing we’re all craving at the moment is
connection - especially those that are isolated alone.
If experiences are not directly driving sales, it comes
down to sentiment and retention rates. Live, shared,
and unfamiliar immersive experiences are the most
effective way of creating memories audience
members will remember forever.

Why VR wins
> streaming
Streaming isn’t engaging, hence why the majority of
attendees opt out in the first few minutes of viewing.
You don’t need to think that the audience of your virtual
events should be limited to those who have VR headsets —
or to those who can virtually attend one space.
For the majority of VR platforms, it is possible to livestream to
any regular flat platform — YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, or to
your website. How many people do you usually have in the
conference room?
Your camera is still pointed at the stage where you have a
keynote speaker with a presentation or a panel discussion.
The same can be 100% replicated in VR: virtual stage, virtual
speakers interacting in real life as avatars, and a livestream.
Multiple platforms allow you to do that.

Using VR or AR at an event puts you at an advantage because consumers are already
excited about immersive technology,” says Amit Chatterjee, partner, and co-founder of
Shadow Factory – a leading developer of digital content and solutions in Hong Kong,
Toronto, and Los Angeles that produces fully immersive and interactive experiences. “Not
only are you likely to attract more foot traffic to your booth or pop-up, but immersive
experiences also achieve higher retention and brand recall.

Virtual Booths
Virtual booths are a great way for sponsors, partners, and brands to engage with potential customers and get
business leads! You can live stream (including from VR!) or just play a video, and so much more!

Frontrow:
AltSpace VR
Altspace VR’s FrontRow technology intelligently mirrors
performers’ avatars to all the audience locations. The
performance spaces are automatically added as more and
more people join. The performer’s gestures, movements and
voice are instantly shared in all the performance spaces.
With the VR Call feature, included when AltspaceVR is
downloaded from Google Play, users can invite just their
friends to enjoy an event in a private space. Users can join
FrontRow experiences from a variety of VR platforms
including Facebook’s Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and on mobile
with Samsung Gear VR.
AltspaceVR delivers a front row experience regardless if 40 or
40,000 people attend.

VR keeps students locked in their chairs,” says Daniel Dyboski-Bryant, a
foreign language teacher in Wales, England. “They want to engage. They want
to learn. They can’t get enough of this, and it’s fascinating and so exciting as a
teacher to see this new passion for learning.

Learning in VR
Teaching within the immersive, virtual environment has been found to benefit students of all ages, especially
those with social anxieties and those on the autism spectrum.

Virtual
Events Team
Similar to an in-person
event, you’ll want to make
sure everyone on your team
knows their specific role
and responsibilities.
Examples of virtual event
roles include:
Registration/greeter: Welcomes attendees as they join the space and is in
charge of collecting attendance data after the online event.
Chat moderator: Posts the rules/code of conduct into the chat,
encourages attendee participation, and removes anyone who breaks the
rules.
Host: Makes sure that the event stays on time and follows the pre-planned
agenda. This is especially helpful when there are multiple speakers.
Technical admin: Remains on standby in case of technical issues or
troubleshooting required during the virtual event. If your chosen
technology fails, this person would be in charge of emailing all attendees
to ask them to reboot, or provide information about Plan B technology if
you need to switch tools mid-event.
