2. PLANT MAINTENANCE
Plant maintenance is an
important service function of a
production system.
Maintenance means care,
upkeep.
It helps in increasing the
operational efficiency of Plant
facilities.
Maintenance is the
procedure of finding the faults in
any equipment/machine and also
removal of faults.
It may be before the
breakdown or after the
breakdown.
3. PLANT MAINTENANCE
Plant maintenance is defined
as a set of activities that are necessary to
keep machinery, parts and types of
equipment in good operating conditions
to avoid production stoppage and loss.
Plant maintenance usually to
the methods, strategies and practices
used to keep an industrial factory
running efficiently.
The general aim of Plant
maintenance is to create a productive
working environment that is also safe for
workers.
7. Preventive Maintenance
It is based upon the principle that ‘preventive is
better than cure’ .
It is a set of activities that are performed on plant
equipment, machinery, and systems before the
occurrence of a failure in order to protect them and
to prevent or eliminate any degradation in their
operating conditions.
It has three types
1. Running maintenance
2. Scheduled maintenance
3. Shut down maintenance
8. Corrective Maintenance
In this type, actions such as repair, replacement or
restore will be carried out after the occurrence of a
failure in order to eliminate the source of this failure
or reduce the frequency of its occurrence.
It also include the different types of actions like
typical adjustment of redesign equipment.
It has 2 types
1. Breakdown maintenance
2. Shutdown maintenance
10. ADVANTAGES OF PLANT
MAINTENANCE
Greater safety to workers.
Reduction in production down time.
Less spare parts.
Prolongs the life of the machine.
Maintenance quality and continuity of
production.
11. DISADVANTAGES OF PLANT
MAINTENANCE :
High control on records and analysis, planning and scheduling.
Monitoring of parameters like temperature, lubricature, noise,
corrosion, leaks etc are High. The equipments to do that also
are costly.
Optimum PM is required,
hence correct judgment
is needed. Too much or
too little is not good.
