2. FORM
Form is an element of art. At its most
basic, a form is a three-dimensional
geometrical figure (i.e.: sphere, cube,
cylinder, cone, etc.), as opposed to a
shape, which is two-dimensional, or flat.
In a broader sense, form, in art, means the
whole of a piece's visible elements and the
way those elements are united. In this
context, form allows us, as viewers, to
mentally capture the work and understand
it.
3. Tone/ Value
Mastering tonal values is an essential skill
and important in order to re-evaluate and
analyze the academic canon that relates to
the depiction of light and dark in relation to
techniques of illusionism.

5. Light Tone Arrangement
The shadow of the sphere and cast
shadow separate from the background and
the darks form the smallest area of the
drawing (especially on cast shadow area).
Thus, this dark area become a focal
point for the whole composition. The local
tone of the sphere dissolves into the
background and the lost edge appear in
the light side of the form rather in the
shadow or core shadow area. I can
associate this approach with chiaroscuro
‘with the soul’ since the use of light is more
outstanding as compared to darkness.
6. Mid-tone Arrangement
The sphere is significantly lighter than the
background as compared to light tone
arrangement above. The background also
is slightly lighter behind the shadow
side. The lost edge between the sphere
and the background falls in the halftone
area. I can associate this arrangement with
pictorial and tonal chiaroscuro since the
use of light and dark is quite balance for
the whole composition.
7. Dark Tone Arrangement
In this dark tone arrangement, the dark
background puts the sphere in big relief as
seen in luminous chiaroscuro or tenebrism
work. The influence of darkness dominates
with limited light influence. The background
merges with the core shadow of the sphere
into the cast shadow. The mid-tones are
generally lighter than the background and
the lost edges are pushed back. In contrast
to light tone arrangement, the light shape
becomes the clear focal point as it is the
area of highest contrast.
