2. - Sharp long beak, no interbeak serrations
** Looks like bird beak plier but beaks are
longer**
- One conical one, one pyramidal
- Conical beak has no steps(only universal
plier has steps)
Uses :
- To form or curve any helix
- To curve wires
(mainly form loops and helices)
3. - Serrations on beaks
Uses :
- Helps in curving the arch form of
wire
- Accentuate the arch on the
wire(make it curve more)
4. Archwire Tucker
- Looks like amalgam condenser
Uses :
- Lodge the wire into the bracket slot and
molar buccal tubes (on last molars)
5. - 2 types (curved/straight beak)
* Curved beak shown here*
Uses :
- Used to grasp the bracket while
bonding
6. - L shaped short instrument
Uses :
- After the arch wire crosses the last
tooth( at molar), the Distal End
Cutter cuts the wire at the end and
holds the extra end so that the
patient doesn’t swallow it.
7. Mathew/Mathieu Needle
Holder
(only 1 t in mathew)
- Looks like a hemostat
- criss-cross serrations at beak
Uses :
- Used for tying the ligature wire around the
bracket
- Placing modules around brackets
** Clip onto the ligature wire and just twist the
instrument around your index finger to form coiled
wire**
8. BAND REMOVING
PLIER
( NOT DEBONDING)
- One grey color cushion on one beak,
sharp and blunt end on another.
- Blunt/cushioned end placed on
occlusal surface, then remove metal
bands from tooth
Uses :
-nUsed for removing of metal bands from
tooth
9. Bands Seater(not pusher)
- looks like toothbrush handle
Uses :
-position the serrated end on bands and ask
patient to bite down to seat the band around
the tooth
10. Band Pusher
- Serrated tip and is a heavy
instrument
Uses :
- Pushes bands into interdental area
around the tooth
11. NiTi Opened coil spring
- used for opening up spaces between teeth, acts as spring to push teeth away
NiTi closed coil spring
- 2 rings on both ends to pull teeth together( close gap
between teeth)
Lingual buttons
-placed lingually to teeth for extra attachment
12. Turret
- looks like a dumbbell
Uses :
- Used for forming arch forms on
wire(curving them)
** Mainly used for rectangular dimension
wire**
14. - Beak has 2 short tips to hold the separator
Uses :
- hold the separator at the beak tip and
place it interdentally to create space
15. Pin & Ligature Cutter(PLC)
- Looks like a wire cutter
Uses :
- Cutting THIN wire , like ligature wire -0.09mm
16. Cheek Retractor – used during scaling and bonding of brackets
Separator(Blue star) * not elastics, not modules too*
- placed interdentally to separate the teeth
** Modules are colored loops that attach arch wire to the bracket, separator are thicker and
modules are thinner**
17. GIC Cementing bands ( GIC cuz luted with GIC)
- Placed at the most distal tooth
- consists of a metal band and a buccal tube(on buccal side)
- Archwire goes through the buccal tube
- Buccal tube attaches archwire and also elastic bands
Brackets(Fixed appliances)
- specific for every teeth
- Bond directly to tooth which arch wire passes through them and are secured by elastic
modules.
18. Boons Gauge - looks like a metal star
- bracket positioning aid ( it accurately measures the height of bracket placement from
incisal edge
- the 4 edges’ flat surface rest on the incisal edge, and there will be a pin pointing on the
labial surface of tooth indicating where to place the bracket.
Elastometic Chain – placed over arch wire to close spaces between teeth (pulling effect)
19. NiTi Wire
- has super elasticity and shape memory, meaning they will return to their original shape
- Preformed NiTi/SS arch wire are coded
- Upper arch wire has 3 laser markings
- Lower arch wire has 1 laser marking
AJ Wilcock wire
- Upper arch wire 3 dots, lower arch wire 1 dot
20. Uses :
- Holds arch wire and remove/ seat a
band.
- Curved for posteriors, Straight for
anteriors
21. Debonding Plier
- 110 degree angulation at the beak
Uses :
- Used for debonding/removal of
brackets
22. Bird beak plier
- Actually a round plier
- Similar size to universal plier but beaks have no
step ladder
**Looks like light arch wire plier but beaks are
shorter**
Uses :
- Extremely popular plier for instrumentation of
round dimension wires
23. Ribbon Arch Plier
- Has sharp broad beaks
Uses :
- Gives sharp bends on the wire
