5. Meaning of Life
Meaning of life is found in every moment
of living; life never ceases to have
meaning, even in suffering and death.
Victor Frankl
6. Pursuit of meaning
• In the pursuit of meaning, Frankl recommends three different
courses of action:
• through deeds,
• the experience of values through some kind of medium (beauty
through art, love through a relationship, etc.)
• or suffering.

7. Pursuit of meaning
• While the third is not necessarily in the absence of the first
two, within Frankl’s frame of thought, suffering became an
option through which to find meaning and experience values
in life in the absence of the other two opportunities (Frankl
1992, p. 118)

8. Meaning Paths Exercise
• Make a list of the most meaningful moments you've
experienced.
• What was meaningful about them?
• Were they all meaningful in the same way?
• For example, are they all only one kind of meaning - examples of
opportunities you had to give, opportunities to receive blessings, or
opportunities to overcome adversity - or were these events a variety
of different types of meaning?
