ACTION RESEARCH
PROPOSAL

KVAFS BEGUMPET
Action research is research done by the practitioner in order to
improve his/her working conditions or efficacy. The purpose of
the research is to solve a problem the worker/practitioner is
having or to investigate a phenomena he/she has noticed in the
course of his/her working life. The initial research question may
be developed by the researcher alone or may come out of
conversations or gripes with his/her colleagues. The researcher
talks about the problem with colleagues or “critical” friends in
order to hone his/her question and to develop a methodology to
investigate it.
ACTION BASED RESEARCH
It can be important for the researcher/practitioner to resist using
his/her expertise to try to solve the dilemma or answer the
question. Instead, at this stage it is vitally important to stay open
to unexpected possibilities and allow one’s observations (rather
than one’s assumptions) to guide the next steps. While applying
an action research approach to an existing issue, the researcher
shares news about his/her progress in collecting and analysing
data with the same “critical friends” in order to get input from
people outside of the data collection/analysis process who are
familiar with the problem being investigated by the
researcher. The researcher shares what he/she has learned with
the same group of people and perhaps a wider audience formally
or informally.
The goals of action research are to empower the
practitioner as he/she should be regarded as an expert
in his/her work.
the practitioner/researcher might dip into the
professional literature at multiple points as he/she
identifies topics to explore. Or it can be postponed
until the end of the action research, when the
researcher is ready to compare his/her working
theories with what others in their field have learned
through other types of research. The process of
conducting research can also improve the researcher’s
affect in terms of valuing his/her own expertise
It can be a way create or improve “best
practices” and to challenge commonly held
“truths” that have been unsubstantiated. Often
action research is the beginning of identifying
deeper questions that sustain practitioners
throughout their careers rather than solving a
discreet problem and then coming to conclusion.
ACTION RESEARCH
PROPOSAL FORMAT
Improving the listening skills of the
learners through multimedia

II- BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The problem of poor listening skills among the school
going children is a universal bane among the School
teachers. Issues like teachers’ nature, time of teaching,
nature of topic, subject preference, physical state of
health, need of the topic from exam point of view,
pronunciation, pitch, volume, threats, cajoling have
been passed through the acid test and have bitten the
dust. The switch on switch off technique of students is
the waterloo of every teacher. So using various
multimedia techniques and exercises the researcher has
thought of sharpening the skill itself to combat the
problem
III-STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Negligence Of The Listening Skill
Among School Going Children
IV- SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
i) On Pupils
Being the affected party, the learner will get
to assess himself and his listening skill, the
disadvantages of poor listening, benefits of
effective listening skills therefore the need to
work on his listening skill in the process.
ii) On Teachers
Being a fifty % shareholder, the learner and the
teacher roles are directly proportional to each other.
What affects the learner affects the teacher in equal
measure. If inattentive listening distracts the teacher,
increases the frustration level and slows down the
teaching speed, attentive class enthuses the teacher,
inspires and energizes him. The presentation and the
execution of the teaching plan too undergoes a sea
change.
iii) On Parents
As the biggest stakeholders, parents have a lot to gain
from the sharpened listening skills of their wards. Not
only will their communication with their wards will
skyrocket, but the improved listening skill will yield
improved results and improved abilities and brighter
future of their wards there by fulfilling their lifelong
ambition and attaining cherished dream
v) On the Administration
The improved relationship between the students and
the concerned teacher will work wonders on the
general ambience of the first classroom then seep into
the lives of other teachers as well. As a result the
entire school will be throb with positive vibrations
and positivity and usher in relaxed and happy
environment and drive away the stress. So the
general health and well being of everyone concerned.
Needless to say the work done and the results
achieved will be an example to all.
vi) On the community
Happiness is a contagious disease. The happiness
and the good vibes that the school inmates share
with each other will eventually spill over to the other
people of the community and strengthen the
interpersonal relationships of the community. Thus
the community will consist of a closer, happier and
more concerned individuals which will definitely
influnce the nation building process.
vii) On the Researcher himself
Not only will the teacher be able to attack his
teaching job with gusto but also will develop an
insight into tackling problems of complex nature.
He will thus be able to set age old problems that the
school teachers and students are plagued by and
wins hearts in the process. He will have the
professional satisfaction as well as the personal
satisfaction of having made a difference top others’
lives.
V- SCOPE OF THE STUDY
If learning is a never ending and lifelong process ,
settling the issues involved in the teaching learning
process are invariably life long. Perfection is a never
ending process. The proposal can continued to be
applied to different sets of people in different places
at different times in different ways and obtain
different results.
VII- RESEARCH DESIGN
A) METHODOLOGY
1. The first step in this research would be a thorough study of
the learners through various listening tests.
2. Then the researcher would compile, consolidate and study
the data collected
3. Apply effective and interesting tasks to acquaint the learner
with his listening abilities and the losses incurred on account
of his poor listening abilities
4. A fresh set of activities involving focussed listening
5. Collection of fresh data, compilation and study of the post
implementation of the action research.
6. Discussion of the results and the decision taken.
B) SAMPLING DESIGN
An exhaustive design of the learner group
selected, the tasks, the learning environment and
the frequency of the tests intended

1. List all the things that you would see at a fair
2. List all the things that you would hear at a fair
3. Which list is longer?
4. Compare your list with your list with your
partner and find out who is a better listener
5. What should be your future course of action?
DURING IMPLEMENTATION STAGE
SET I
1. The learner would listen to a set of sounds, identify and record in their notebooks
2. Check the correctness of the recording.
3. Make corrections
4. Draw conclusions
SET II
1. The student listens to a poem and completes the incomplete poem in his note book on
the basis of his listening
2. Analysis of his results
3. Devises Remedial measures through group discussions
SET III
1. Completes advanced listening tasks like filling up reservation forms, labelling maps
and identifying people and conducting experiments with the help of recorded
instructions.
ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS
The researcher studies the results of the action
undertaken, records the conclusions and seeks
the opinion of the fellow members and superior
authorities.
A formal report is made and authenticated
Preserved for posterity

PROPOSAL
MODEL II
Introduction
This is your chance to set up the motivation for the research.
What is the educational issue you wish to solve or improve?
What is the extent of the problem? How does your project seek
to solve the problem? You may rely on your own experience as
well as literature for this.
Literature Review
Describe the theory and prior research related to your project. Instead of
summaries of papers, this should be a summary of what the literature says
about the subjects. Use subheadings to let the reader know what your topics
are. Your literature review should provide an argument for why your study
is the next logical step towards solving the problem.
Methodology
A description of the participants, instruments, procedures and analysis that
you will use in your study. Provide a timeline of the research to show its
feasibility.
Reference List
Appendices
This is optional at this stage, but if you have drafts of survey instruments,
interview protocols, screen shots or other information they belong here.
