These types of films have tremendous impact, continuous energy, lots of
physical stunts and activity, possibly extended chase scenes, battles,
fighting, destructive disasters, explosions, spectacular rhythm and pacing,
and adventurous heroes - all designed for escapism for the audience with
the action sequences at the core of the film.
5. Where did the genre originate from?
The genre began through many silent films around the early 1900’s when
films such as Edwin S. Porter’s ‘The Great Train Robbery’ (1903). Since it has
remained popular throughout cinematic history. It then increased largely
during the 1980’s and 1990’s with films such as ‘Top Gun’ (1986) and ‘Die
Hard’ (1988) both grossing over $300 million.
