CSR
WHY CSR ?
A simple definition of Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR is given by WBCSD as :
”the continuing commitment by business to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their
families as well as of the community and society at large.”
India is a country of myriad contradictions. On the one hand, it has grown to be one of the largest economies in the
world, and an increasingly important player in the emerging global order. On the other hand, it is still home to the
largest number of people living in absolute , abject poverty. Even if the proportion of poor people has decreased
recently, we still have one of the largest number of undernourished children. What emerges is a picture of uneven
distribution of the benefits of growth which many believe, is the root cause of social unrest. These causes of unrest,
unless addressed & uprooted immediately , look very likely to lead to an upheaval which could change the very face
of this great nation unrecognizably & unrelentingly – affecting very aspect & facet of life as we know it on this sub
continent – politically, socially , in fact in every manner that we can envisage as examples of national upheavals
caused by inequality, beyond bearing, for too long .
Now is the time ! Now is the time not for Charity or Pity or Piety but for acquiring Responsibility . . . Yours, Mine,
Ours, to contribute our mite & bring about a more perceptible & balanced change in the social fabric of our nation.
Change Now. Before it’s too late.
“ Now is the time ! Now is the time not for Charity or Pity or Piety but for acquiring Responsibility - Yours, Mine,
Ours, to contribute our mite & bring about a more perceptible & a more balanced change in the social & economic
fabric of our nation , wrought by ourselves , not by them , them or even the government . “
CSR IN INDIA
• In August 2013, the Indian parliament passed the Indian Companies Act, 2013 (the "New Act"), which has
replaced the Companies Act of 1956.
• One of the New Act’s most startling changes—which came into effect on April 1, 2014—has been to impose
compulsory corporate social responsibility obligations ("CSR") upon Indian & foreign companies operating
in India. These obligations mainly come in the form of mandatory amounts companies must contribute to
remediating social problems.
• The threshold coverage levels for CSR are low. Companies are subject to the CSR requirements if they
have, for any financial year :
i. A net worth of at least Rs. 500 crores (INR 5 billion - approximately U.S.$80 million)
ii. A turnover of at least Rs. 1000 crores (INR 10 billion - approximately U.S.$160 million) , or
iii. A net profit of at least Rs. 5 crores (INR 50 million - approximately U.S. $800 thousand)
• An entity or business that meets these specified Thresholds must spend on CSR Activities no less than
(atleast) two percent (2%) of its Average Net Profit for its Preceding three (3) Financial Years.
CSR
CSR Activities are Mandatory now , not optional. Even if an establishment
has an Annual NP of INR 5 Crores it has to spend ,atleast, INR 10 Lakhs.
ACTIVITIES UNDER CSR IN INDIA – POLICY AGENDA
The activities that can be undertaken by a company to fulfill it’s CSR obligations include :
• Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition,
• Promoting preventive healthcare,
• Promoting education and promoting gender equality,
• Setting up homes for women, orphans and the senior citizens,
• Measures for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups,
• Ensuring environmental sustainability and ecological balance,
• Animal welfare, protection of national heritage and art and culture, measures for the benefit of armed forces veterans,
war widows and their dependents,
• Training to promote rural, nationally recognized, Paralympics or Olympic sports,
• Contribution to the prime minister's national relief fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government for socio -
economic development and relief and welfare of SC, ST, OBCs, minorities and women,
• Contributions or funds provided to technology incubators located within academic institutions approved by the Central
Government and rural development projects.
CSR
Note : . . . “ in determining CSR activities to be undertaken, preference would need to be given
to local areas and the areas around where the company operates. . .”
CSR
HOW TO CARRY OUT CSR ACTIVITIES - POLICY
• A company can undertake its CSR activities through a registered trust or society or a company established
by its holding, subsidiary or associate company or otherwise, provided that the company has specified the
activities to be undertaken, the modalities for utilization of funds as well as the reporting and monitoring
mechanism.
• If the entity through which the CSR activities are being undertaken is not established by the company or its
holding, subsidiary or an associate company, such entity would need to have an established track record of
three years undertaking similar activities.
• Companies can also collaborate with each other for jointly undertaking CSR activities, provided that each of
the companies are able to individually report on such projects.
• To formulate and monitor the CSR policy of a company, a CSR Committee of the Board needs to be
constituted. Section 135 of the 2013 Act requires the CSR Committee to consist of at least three directors,
including an independent director. However, CSR Rules exempt unlisted public companies and private
companies that are not required to appoint an independent director from having an independent director as
a part of their CSR Committee and stipulates that the Committee for a private company and a foreign
company need have a minimum of only 2 members.

CSR
ALTASORZ ROADMAP
The idea , which instigated the origin & now motivates the existence of ALTASORZ [AGTPL] , is to create opportunities
under the multi pronged themes of all round development, affecting life at all levels of any citizen’s existence :
 Personal
 Social
 Human &
 Economic
These opportunities , when availed , will trigger the forward march of the cyclical process of improvement, through
the development of model communities, both in rural & urban settings. These communities, once established , may
be replicated throughout the country.
The Key Aspects, briefly enumerated :
 Creation of a suitable ecosystem for basic infrastructure services, education, skill development and enhanced productivity
 Opening up of avenues for increased private participation and convergence of various government schemes
 Promotion of sustainable development through alternative energy technologies
CSR
IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY IN THE DEVELOPMENT MODEL

(SCHOOLS/
HOSPITALS/OFFICES)
CSR
Energy in various forms play a important role in our lives. This is hardly realised in the metros and cities. But
as we move into the interiors of our country we are faced with dire shortage of energy mostly in the form of
electricity, cooking fuel etc.
How many of us can boast that “our village is electrified” or there is “no shortage of electricity” .
Energy shortage causes less productivity in the form of - less working hours, less utilisation of
modern instruments to ease work, high cost of production which ultimately burdens the
people living in these areas. Thus accepting and encouraging new technologies that utilise renewable energy
sources can help solve many of these problems. WHY? ITS LIMITLESS,ITS ECONOMIC & ITS GREEN
CSR
AltaSorz promotes & provides Green Energy Solutions , currently, through the following
renewable resources :
 SOLAR POWER
 BIO-GAS
These resources can significantly reduce dependence on the state electricity grids for domestic , agricultural
as well as commercial & industrial energy needs .
These self sustained , renewable resource options , if quickly & intelligently implemented, for the requirements of
energy in their daily lives. These options ,hence, will make their lives not just more convenient overall but , in
many essential aspects of life , more productive too – they will be positive contributors to the enhancement
of the national economy and social development of the country , instead of being burdensome unto themselves &
their fellow men , as now .
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Solar Power can significantly improve the energy situation of India quickly &
effectively, by exploiting the nation’s Solar Energy Potential , a natural blessing
because of it’s geo position on the world map. Consider this :
The Total Solar Energy Potential of India : 748.98 GWp
The Top Solar Energy Potential Indian States :
CSR

State Solar Energy Potential (GWp)
Rajasthan 142.31
Jammu & Kashmir 111.05
Maharashtra 64.32
Madhya Pradesh 61.66
Andhra Pradesh 38.44
Gujarat 35.77
AltaSorz is involved in providing & supporting viable Solar Energy solutions to meet the varied energy
needs of the commercial , industrial and domestic users , across the nation.
• Bio-Gas is a very green, very convenient & a very important option, for
inexpensive energy, where assessed as feasible. This statement is all the more
true & viable in rural India. Though it’s a resource which is easily available in
abundance and furthermore a resource which has been proven as an economical plus technically feasible
option for the last 4 to 5 decades, it is still a very glaringly overlooked as a simplistic, low-tech energy
production solution . It’s treatment is very akin to the simple solutions for long standing tedious problems ,
which stare us in the face for ages before someone of daring & simplicity (not simplistic) , undertakes to
adopt the “answer obvious”
• Bio-Gas may be generated from almost any bio-waste which is produced in substantial quantities , in the
myriad areas of human population & endeavour , at work and rest. Significantly, segregated bio-waste is
produced in huge quantities in our villages, everyday. Bio-gas is also an option , which may be viable , for thick
& tightly populated BPL & EWS residential areas (slums), of some medium & large cities, which perennially
suffer from inadequate Sanitation and Waste Management utilities
• Bio-Gas may be utilised for the production of :
 Electric Power (onsite usage)
 Cooking Gas (onsite usage - domestic or commercial)

Essential reasons we Indians , as a nation , require better sanitation facilities :
• 1/7th of the world population do not have access to toilets & 60% of them live in India
• 53% Indian Households defecate in the open - (Source: World Bank) [ Urban & Rural populations, together ]
• Poor sanitation impacts human health
• Common Diseases caused due to open defecation :
 Diarrhea
 Intestinal worm infections
 Typhoid
 Cholera
 Hepatitis
 Polio
 Trachoma and others
CSR
SANITATION
More than 1,600 children in India, under the age of five , die daily,
due to diarrhea - caused by lack of sanitation.
AltaSorz promotes and recommends bio toilets over conventional
toilets because :
• Bio-Toilets Do Not require connection to any sewage treatment plant pipe lines
• Bio-Toilets are Hygienic and Non-Polluting
• Bio-Toilets eliminate manual scavenging [banned completely in India]
• Very Low maintenance. Relatively low installation cost
• Odorless
• Very little water requirement
• Suitable for all terrains
• Useful by-products in the form of :
» Bio-Gas (Methane) &
» Water
CSR
BIOTOILETS- A GREEN SOLUTION TO OPEN DEFECATION
At AltaSorz we believe ‘ Better Sanitation = A Better Nation ’ . . .
What better way to implement that , than, in an Eco-Friendly & Economic way – the AltaSorz way,
In Tune With Nature & Men . . .
PRE-FABRICATED HOUSE MODELS
PRE- FAB SECTIONS ARE PRE-CAST IN THE
FACTORY – READY TO BE ASSEMBLED AT SITE
ASSEMBLED PRE- CAST HOUSE
LESS TIME TO BUILD = LESS LABOUR = LESS COST
CSR
Secure Habitation/Shelter is a basic necessity which unfortunately eludes
very large sections of people, both in rural and urban areas , in most of
the developing nations around the globe, including India . AltaSorz has
been working on identifying & procuring sustainable options for providing
low cost housing solutions which may provide better living standards to
the marginalized.
RAINWATER HARVESTING-
SOLUTION FOR SCARCITY OF WATER
Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and deposition
or secure storage of rainwater for reuse on-site. This is
done rather than the general current practice of allowing it
to runoff haphazardly, leading to the irrecoverable loss of
this precious resource, through distant flow off and quick
surface evaporation.
There are many uses of the collected rain water ,
including :
 Water for safe & adequate Irrigation – gardens & farms
 Water for Livestock – domestic & farm
 Water for domestic use - with proper treatment
 Water for indoor heating of houses, etc.
CSR
We work . Or, rather, we help you to implement your ideas by organising our resources and expertise to

  • 9. ALTASORZ ROADMAP The idea , which instigated the origin & now motivates the existence of ALTASORZ [AGTPL] , is to create opportunities under the multi pronged themes of all round development, affecting life at all levels of any citizen’s existence :  Personal  Social  Human &  Economic These opportunities , when availed , will trigger the forward march of the cyclical process of improvement, through the development of model communities, both in rural & urban settings. These communities, once established , may be replicated throughout the country. The Key Aspects, briefly enumerated :  Creation of a suitable ecosystem for basic infrastructure services, education, skill development and enhanced productivity  Opening up of avenues for increased private participation and convergence of various government schemes  Promotion of sustainable development through alternative energy technologies CSR
  • 10. IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY IN THE DEVELOPMENT MODEL ENERGY HOUSEHOLD ELECTRIFICATION INDUSTRIALISATION AGRICULTURE GENERAL AMENITIES (SCHOOLS/ HOSPITALS/OFFICES) CSR Energy in various forms play a important role in our lives. This is hardly realised in the metros and cities. But as we move into the interiors of our country we are faced with dire shortage of energy mostly in the form of electricity, cooking fuel etc. How many of us can boast that “our village is electrified” or there is “no shortage of electricity” . Energy shortage causes less productivity in the form of - less working hours, less utilisation of modern instruments to ease work, high cost of production which ultimately burdens the people living in these areas. Thus accepting and encouraging new technologies that utilise renewable energy sources can help solve many of these problems. WHY? ITS LIMITLESS,ITS ECONOMIC & ITS GREEN
  • 11. CSR AltaSorz promotes & provides Green Energy Solutions , currently, through the following renewable resources :  SOLAR POWER  BIO-GAS These resources can significantly reduce dependence on the state electricity grids for domestic , agricultural as well as commercial & industrial energy needs . These self sustained , renewable resource options , if quickly & intelligently implemented, for the requirements of energy in their daily lives. These options ,hence, will make their lives not just more convenient overall but , in many essential aspects of life , more productive too – they will be positive contributors to the enhancement of the national economy and social development of the country , instead of being burdensome unto themselves & their fellow men , as now . RENEWABLE ENERGY
  • 12. Solar Power can significantly improve the energy situation of India quickly & effectively, by exploiting the nation’s Solar Energy Potential , a natural blessing because of it’s geo position on the world map. Consider this : The Total Solar Energy Potential of India : 748.98 GWp The Top Solar Energy Potential Indian States : CSR SOLAR ENERGY State Solar Energy Potential (GWp) Rajasthan 142.31 Jammu & Kashmir 111.05 Maharashtra 64.32 Madhya Pradesh 61.66 Andhra Pradesh 38.44 Gujarat 35.77 AltaSorz is involved in providing & supporting viable Solar Energy solutions to meet the varied energy needs of the commercial , industrial and domestic users , across the nation.
  • 13. • Bio-Gas is a very green, very convenient & a very important option, for inexpensive energy, where assessed as feasible. This statement is all the more true & viable in rural India. Though it’s a resource which is easily available in abundance and furthermore a resource which has been proven as an economical plus technically feasible option for the last 4 to 5 decades, it is still a very glaringly overlooked as a simplistic, low-tech energy production solution . It’s treatment is very akin to the simple solutions for long standing tedious problems , which stare us in the face for ages before someone of daring & simplicity (not simplistic) , undertakes to adopt the “answer obvious” • Bio-Gas may be generated from almost any bio-waste which is produced in substantial quantities , in the myriad areas of human population & endeavour , at work and rest. Significantly, segregated bio-waste is produced in huge quantities in our villages, everyday. Bio-gas is also an option , which may be viable , for thick & tightly populated BPL & EWS residential areas (slums), of some medium & large cities, which perennially suffer from inadequate Sanitation and Waste Management utilities • Bio-Gas may be utilised for the production of :  Electric Power (onsite usage)  Cooking Gas (onsite usage - domestic or commercial) CSR BIO-GAS

  • 15. Essential reasons we Indians , as a nation , require better sanitation facilities : • 1/7th of the world population do not have access to toilets & 60% of them live in India • 53% Indian Households defecate in the open - (Source: World Bank) [ Urban & Rural populations, together ] • Poor sanitation impacts human health • Common Diseases caused due to open defecation :  Diarrhea  Intestinal worm infections  Typhoid  Cholera  Hepatitis  Polio  Trachoma and others CSR SANITATION More than 1,600 children in India, under the age of five , die daily, due to diarrhea - caused by lack of sanitation.
  • 16. AltaSorz promotes and recommends bio toilets over conventional toilets because : • Bio-Toilets Do Not require connection to any sewage treatment plant pipe lines • Bio-Toilets are Hygienic and Non-Polluting • Bio-Toilets eliminate manual scavenging [banned completely in India] • Very Low maintenance. Relatively low installation cost • Odorless • Very little water requirement • Suitable for all terrains • Useful by-products in the form of : » Bio-Gas (Methane) & » Water CSR BIOTOILETS- A GREEN SOLUTION TO OPEN DEFECATION At AltaSorz we believe ‘ Better Sanitation = A Better Nation ’ . . . What better way to implement that , than, in an Eco-Friendly & Economic way – the AltaSorz way, In Tune With Nature & Men . . .
  • 17. PRE-FABRICATED HOUSE MODELS PRE- FAB SECTIONS ARE PRE-CAST IN THE FACTORY – READY TO BE ASSEMBLED AT SITE ASSEMBLED PRE- CAST HOUSE LESS TIME TO BUILD = LESS LABOUR = LESS COST CSR Secure Habitation/Shelter is a basic necessity which unfortunately eludes very large sections of people, both in rural and urban areas , in most of the developing nations around the globe, including India . AltaSorz has been working on identifying & procuring sustainable options for providing low cost housing solutions which may provide better living standards to the marginalized.
  • 18. RAINWATER HARVESTING- SOLUTION FOR SCARCITY OF WATER Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and deposition or secure storage of rainwater for reuse on-site. This is done rather than the general current practice of allowing it to runoff haphazardly, leading to the irrecoverable loss of this precious resource, through distant flow off and quick surface evaporation. There are many uses of the collected rain water , including :  Water for safe & adequate Irrigation – gardens & farms  Water for Livestock – domestic & farm  Water for domestic use - with proper treatment  Water for indoor heating of houses, etc. CSR
