2. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is among the foremost
of institutes of national importance in higher technological
education and in engineering, basic and applied research. Since
its establishment, the Institute has played a vital role in
providingthetechnicalmanpowerandknow-howtothecountry
andinpursuitofresearch.TheInstituteranksamongstthebest
technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all
sectors of technological development. The Institute will have
completed 167th year of its existence in October 1996. Since its

prestigiousinstitution,IndianInstituteofTechnology,Roorkee.Recognizedasoneofthegreatestandthegrandest
youth festivals of India, Thomso encompasses in itself lavish history, splendid culture and a profoundly rich
heritageofIITRoorkee.
Recognising this event of gargantuan proportions, the Government of Uttarakhand proclaimed Thomso as the
"Annual Youth Festival of Uttarakhand". Thomso, at its core, embodies the spirit of life and gaiety.The theme of
Thomso’14, ‘Devil’s Symphony’ , signifies the independence of human thought, spirit and culture. It captures the
fact that the basic essence of humanity lies trapped in the culture, passed through the generation, an essence
that time is what we should learn from. There is always a glory of brightness following the dark.
We, the students of IIT Roorkee, strive to attain perfection by making Thomso a brilliant masterpiece of
grandeur and eminence. Through Thomso'14, we also aim at creating an impact for the betterment of the
economically and socially backward classes of both the urban and the rural population. The fest plays host to the
most strikingly talented scholars and academicians from all over the country, attracts media moguls and
celebrates the divine congregation of culture and intellect. With a behemoth footfall of more than 20,000
students, comprising several IITs and NITs, Thomso has become the abode of this ambrosial combination.

5. One of the most popular events of Thomso, Vogue is an exhilarating night of fashion
extravaganza. Vogue attracts fashionists from all over the country with likes of NIFT and
NID showcasing their talent , through apparels, accessories, jewellery design and
footwear. Sushmita Sen, Udita Goswami, Annie Thomas and Himanshu Malik are some of
thewidelyacclaimedcelebritieswhohavewalkedtheramphereatVogue.

Abhivyakti gives an opportunity to upcoming actors to

events namely Nukkad Natak(the street act), Abhivyakti
(the stage act) and Abhinay(the mono act) are held under

WORKSHOPS
WORKSHOPS are organized for students who are
looking to pick up skills during the hullabaloo that is
THOMSO'13. In the past Workshops on street dance,
solo dance forms, 3D animation, movie making and
manyotheractivitieshavebeenprovidedbycertified
professionals at IIT Roorkee. Students flock these
events in largenumbers.

history of IIT Roorkee.We want to set an example and a trend for all college
