Duck were first domesticated in Asia.
Breeds are classified in terms of their utility like.

3. MEAT TYPE OF BREEDS
AYLESBURY
• Originated from England
• This duck have white feathers and white skin
• Head is large ,straight and long
• Bill is yellow and legs are light orange
• The name comes from Aylesbury ,UK where large
scale breeding programme was carried out.
• Produce creamy colored meat
• Excellent meat breed
• They reach market weight in 18 weeks . Drakes
4.5 kg ducks 3.5 kg.
4. PEKIN
• Originated from China
• They are large and white feathered birds
• Bill and legs are deep orange
• White Pekin is popular
• Lays about 160 eggs
• Called as Emperor ducks
• Having efficient feed efficiency
• Popularly meat market breed .Drakes weigh 4.5 kg ,
Duck 3.5 kg at maturity.
5. ROUEN
• French origin
• Good for roasting
• Eggs are sometimes blue
• Bill is long ,wide ,flat and bright green-yellow
• Neck is slightly curved
• The brick red legs are of medium length
• Lean meat bird
• Larger in size
• Drakes have green heads ,white collars , claret and a
blue patch on the wing .
6. MUSCOVY
• Originated in South America.
• Numerous varieties are exit blue, blue and white
chocolate , chocolate and white , white black,
lavender and calical. black and white.
• Male has knob on the head.
• Male is twice the size of female.
• It flies and perches on trees.
• Shanks and feet are orange
• The white Muscovy produces a white flesh, preferred
by the trade.
7. EGG TYPE BREEDS
INDIAN RUNNER
• White , white –penciled and fawn are the common
popular varieties.
• All 3 varieties have orange to reddish orange feet and
shanks.
• Head is racy appearance and wedge shaped bill.
• Body is slim ,long , rounded and cylindrical.
• Best egg producing duck breed. Lay over 250 eggs
in a year.
• Drakes 1.9-2.5 kg, ducks 1.5-2.2kg.
• Egg color greenish blue
8. KHAKI-CAMPBELL
• Originated in England and has been evolved
by crossing large meat breed Rouen with white
Indian Runner.
• Head carried high and neck is slender.
• Legs of drake are dark orange and of duck are
khaki .
• The head and neck of the drake are greenish
• The rest of its body is khaki brown
• The bill is dark green
• Excellent egg breeder .It lay over 300 eggs/annum
• Egg color white
• Weight Male :2.3-2.5 kg Female :2-2.3 kg
10. BREEDS OF GEESE
• Toulouse and Emden are the most popular meat breeds of geese .
• Other common varieties are:
• Chinese, Canada, Pilgrim, African, Egyptian and Sebastopol.
11. TOULOUSE
• Originated in France.
• This breed has a broad ,deep body and loose feathered
a characteristic which gives massive appearance.
• The plumage is dark grey on the back, gradually shading
to light grey edged with white on the breast and to white
on abdomen.
• The bill looks pale orange and shanks and toes are deep
reddish orange.
• Weight Male:9-9.5kg

12. EMDEN
• Originated in Germany.
• Plumage color is white
