Malnutrition is a term which
covers problems of both
under and over nutrition.
Intakes of energy and/or
nutrients below or in excess

High blood pressure, also
called hypertension, is blood
pressure that is higher than
normal. Your blood pressure
changes throughout the day
based on your activities.
Diabetes:
Is a chronic (long-lasting) health
condition that affects how your
body turns food into energy.
Your body breaks down most of
the food you eat into sugar
(glucose) and releases it into
your bloodstream. When your
blood sugar goes up, it signals
your pancreas to release insulin.
Definition of terms
Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive

People who are obese are more likely to suffer from:
• coronary heart disease;
• type 2 diabetes;
• gall stones;
• arthritis;
• high blood pressure;
• some types of cancers, i.e. colon, breast, kidney and
stomach
Osteomalacia:
Is softening of the bones. It most often
occurs because of a problem with vitamin D,
which helps your body absorb calcium. Your
body needs calcium to maintain the strength
and hardness of your bones. In children, the
condition is called rickets.
Definition of terms
