Vocabulary
Blink
Use it as a verb: when you blink or blink
your eyes, you shut and open your eyes
quickly:
Eg: 1)He blinked in the bright
sunlight.
2)When I told him the news, he
didn’t even blink.
Have you heard of the idiom,
“in the blink of an eye” ?
It means “very quickly”.
eg: When the teacher told the lazy boy to
stay back and do work, he
disappeared around the corner in the
blink of an eye.
Use it as a noun :
blink-off: a staring game in
which the first person
to blink loses the
game.
Bulge
: to be completely full of ; to be bursting
As an adjective:
1) It had bulging eyes.
As a verb:
2) He can’t eat anymore.
His stomach is bulging.
Challenger -
A person who challenges.
Challenge :
1)to invite someone to take part in
a contest to prove who is better.
Eg: She challenged me to a game of tennis.
Another meaning of challenge :
2)A difficult job that tests one’s ability.
eg: a) The monitress found that that it was a
challenge to keep the class quiet when the
teacher was not in class.
b) Trying to stop pupils from littering the
canteen is one of the challenges faced by
teachers.
Snowball
1)A ball that you make out of snow
to throw at someone in a game.
Eg: Let’s have a snowball fight.
2)A situation that develops more and more
quickly as it continues.
Eg :The impact of Michael Jackson’s death had
a snowball effect on the sales of his pop
albums. Many people were rushing to buy
his albums.
English is fun !
