G325 Section A (Question 1. a) Post-Production
“For my vision of the cinema, editing is not simply one aspect. It is the aspect.” ,[object Object],“A feature-length film generates anywhere from twenty to fourty hours of raw footage. When the shooting stops, that unrefined film becomes the movie’s raw material, just as the script had been the raw material before. It now must be selected, tightened, paced, embellished, and in some scenes given artificial respiration, until the author’s and the director’s vision becomes completely translated from the language of the script to the idiom of the movies.” Some Quotes…
Create a small spider diagram writing out all of the different aspects of post-production. If you’re struggling, simply think about everything you did with your film on the MAC computer. Thinking About Your Own Post-Production Work
Watch the following OK GO videos. How much work needed to be done in terms of the post-production work? Now watch this behind-the-scenes clip from ‘Avatar’. How much more work needed to be in terms of post-production? Two Examples
Now rank your various pieces of practical work in terms of the importance of post-production (i.e. how much did your original product change?) Preliminary Product Opening Sequence Trailer Film Poster Magazine Back to your Production Work
In what ways could you develop your skills in terms of Editing? Provide 2 examples that could be used as case studies for skill development in Editing- if you are struggling with this pick out a couple of examples where you were especially pleased with your editing. Skills Development- Editing
What types of sound did you add to your AS and A2 projects? (e.g. music) What programmes did you use in adding/enhancing sound? Try to pick out 2 examples of post-production sound that exemplified skill development. Skills Development- Sound
How often did you use transitions in your projects? Did the quantity and/or the quality in which you used transitions change throughout the two years? (This could possibly mean using them more selectively) Skill Development- Transitions
Approximately how many effects did you add to your productions through the two years? How often were these effects applied to make something appear more realistic (as opposed to more escapist) For at least 2 examples, explain why you applied the special effect (if possible avoid discussing aesthetic reasons) Skill Development- Effects
For what functions did you apply titles? Did you attempt to make these more interesting over the two years? Provide detailed examples. Skill Development- Titles
