5. PREFACE
This project report attempts to bring under
one cover the entire hard work on public
sectors bank industry.
I have expressed my experience in my own
simple way. I hope who goes through it will
find in interesting and worthing reading.
This report deals with bank activities related
to loans. It includes features, history, criteria
for loan sanction, board of directors of bank,
product and services of bank, demography of
customers, etc.
I gave my compete effort to make it valuable,
useful and enrich it with my views so that it
Give complete sense and benefit to readers.
6. INTRODUCTION
PNB has distinction of being the first
Indian bank to have been started solely
with Indian capital that has survived to the
present.
PNB has had the privilege of
maintaining accounts of national leaders
such as mahatma Gandhi, shri Jawahar Lal
Nehru, shri Lal bahadur shastri, Shrimati
Indira Gandhi, as well as the account of
the famous jalianwala-Bagh committee.
PNB is a State- Owned financial
services company. The founder was Lal Laj
pat rai and Dyal singh Majithia.

bank commenced operations on April 12 ,
1895 from Lahore, with an authorized

9. LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature survey is generally conducted to
review the present status of a particular
research topic. It helps the researcher to
know the quantum of work already done on
the particular topic and the area not yet
touched. Relevant literature is accessed
through research reports, articles, books,
journal, magazines and other relavant
materials. some studies related to the
evaluation of financial performance. The
study revealed that the private sesctor bank
play an important role in the development of
Indian economy. Therefore, the main purpose
of this study is to evaluate the financial
performance of Punjab national bank by
observing different variable, ratios and
measures, the impact of deposits and
advances on the profitability of PNB’s.

The present research is a case study in
nature based on the second largest public
sector bank of India i.e. Punjab national
bank.

15. FUNCTION OF PNB
PNB, based in new Delhi, offers a
comprehensive range of financial and
banking services, including credit and
debit cards, savings and current accounts,
loans, and Investment. The bank has 6989
branches and 9255 ATMs across the
country [as of march 2019]
Punjab national bank provides its
customers with a variety of saving
accounts, ranging from standard to
premium accounts and family protection
and pay account, to meet their financial
needs. PNB offer two types of current
accounts to meet the demands of its
customers. Individuals, firms, HUFs, and
companies can use a PNB current account
for frequent financial transactions.
It Loan offering include home loans,
vehicle loans, two-wheeler loans,

loans, to name a few. Fixed deposits,
recurring deposits, credit cards, and debit
cards are among the bank’s investment
and card services.
Customers of Punjab national bank can
check their account balances using net
banking, mobile banking, SMS, ATMs, and
by calling the 24- hours Customer service
number. Customers can also verify their
latest ten transactions through net
banking, mobile banking, SMS, ATMs, and
the PNB customer service number.
Account- holders can also call the PNB
customers care number for immediate
assistance with their problem and
complaints, as well as answers to their
concerns.

STRENGTH:
Strong I.T support with best fit approach.
It is the second largest state-owned commercial bank in
India with about 5000 branches across 764 cities.
Its 5600+ workforce serves over 37 million customers.
WEAKNESS:
Less penetration in the urban areas.
Inadequate advertising and branding as compared to
other banks.
Legal issues regarding employees caused a bad name of
PNB.
OPPORTUNITIES:
Small scale business banking across India.
International banking.
Installation of more ATMs.
Threats:
Economic crisis and economic fluctuations highly
competitive environment.
Stringent banking norms by the RBI and the govt.
20. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The study has been taken up over for limited
time and there are constrains in gathering
information over a month time.
The respondents are mostly busy with their
lives and sometimes they hardly have time
responding the questions.
Variables to compare the other existing banks
were not included which would have been a
very important aspects of the study.
Utilization of the loans as per the intension or
schemes were not properly taken into
consideration, though it would be very hectic
to gather Those Information at the prescribe
time.
21. SUGGESTION OF THE STUDY
Punjab national bank should concentrate more on
Advertising and publicity of its products.
Punjab national bank should create awareness the
customers about the various benefits of having account
in this bank.
Good customers relationship should be maintained and
suggestion from customers may be taken from to time
so as to improve the product features and service.
Punjab national bank should be open new branches at
prime location and not to forget remote areas which are
still untapped.
Punjab national bank should be more aggressive in
promoting their products.
Bank should be regular touch of the customers so that
they can develop a feeling that Punjab national bank is
taking care of all their banking needs.
22. CONCLUSION
The analysis of data collected and its
interpretation revealed the information Regarding
the satisfaction of the customers towards the
products and services and also their awareness
regarding the benefits fo having relationship with
Punjab national bank.
One of the corporate visions of Punjab national
bank is to serve their customers in the most
efficient manner and to gain maximum consumers
satisfaction. With cut-throat competition in the
industry, almost all banks try provide same
service. thus the company should focus on
providing the customers with added benefits to
gain maximum satisfaction.
The study undertaken helped to obtain suggestion
for improvement of product and services, it also
helped is finding out the satisfaction level of the
Accounts holders. The study also showed that
most of the people are approached by the staff of
Punjab national bank regarding opening of
account.
