abdomial examination checklist . how to start the examination with consent and how to do ispection palpation percussion and auscultation.

3. Medicine Examinations abdomen
• Exposure (below nipple to mid thigh)
1. Examine hand for
clubbing,pallor,icterus,koilonychia,erythe
ma,
2. Check the pulse for volume,rate,rhytm
3. Check eyes for pallor and ictrus
4. Examine mouth for apathous ulcers ,
pallor , cheliosis, glossitis .
5. Check supraclaviculr L.N (Virchow nodes)
for metastatic spread of gastric cancer.
6. See nipp;es for gynecomastia

4. Medicine Examinations
1. Now see abdomen from foot end and
right side of bed
• Shape
• Scar marks
• Rashes
• Visible mass
• Visible veins

5. Medicine Examinations
• Palpate abdomen in s shape manner and
look at face of patient first do superfical
then deep palpation in s shape manner
starting from rt iliac fossa.

Now palpate liver with side of your hand as
you can see in this video at the same time
percuss in mid clavicular line from above
downward for upper border

7. Medicine Examinations
Percuss spleen obliquely from rt iliac fossa
upward and then from left lumber area
upward.
And measure it size along with whole body
lymphnodes.
Palpate for splenic notch , consistency ,
texture , hardness and softness of splenic
edge.

Palpate for both kidneys by putting one hand
below flank and other hand above flank.
Palpate for bladder by putting one side of
hand from hower border of sternum
downward.

• Do the murphy kidney punch for
costovertebral angle tenderness and look
at patient face.
• Also do liver punch at same time

10. Medicine Examinations
Percuss for spleen urinary bladder or any
visible mass.
Do the shifting dullness by starting
percussion from midline and then shifting
toward left side and wait for 10 sec until fluid
shift to dependend side and percuss again

11. Medicine Examinations
Now ascultate for 20 seconds at rt iliac fossa

12. Now explain the findings
• By saying my patient name is………. He is ……… year old he has ………
build …….. Norished ……..oriented in time place and person is lying
comfortably on bed .
• Now tell all the finding and star with the obvious finding and at end
tell non obvious findings
