federal called ‘Machete’(Danny
Trejo). He roams texas as a
vigilante who is double-crossed
and forced to go on the run. He
goes on a bloodspill to settle the
score.

and this is also emphasized by the red
colour. Also this frame makes the audiences
engage in finding out who the man is and it
also sets the tone for the film.
5. Frame: 2
Within this frame; the title ‘Machete’ is
signified by the white, bold font used and it
is in 3-D which makes it more significant. In
addition, the camera is looking up a man
who is shown to carry numerous amounts of
machete; his presence is very intimidating
for the audience as they won’t know who the
person is as he vaguely shown. However, the
audience will know that the man is very
dangerous and powerful.
6. Frame: 3
This frame shows; the man with two
machetes engaged in violence and from
the audience's perspective; it looks like
he is attacking someone. The camera
view shows the audience that the man is
powerful and dominant as; the camera is
tilting up from a low-point which shows
us that the person who is being attacked
is in a vulnerable state. The orange
colour signifies his power, aggression
and dangerous presence.
7. Frame: 4
Within this frame; a main actress ‘Michelle
Rodriguez’ is introduced in one frame. This
shows that she is a well-known actress and
it signifies her importance within the movie
itself as she is given a whole shot to
herself. In addition, she is holding a
weapon( genre convention) which shows
the audience that; she is a dangerous
character as this is emphasized by the
orange colour but she also symbolises
authority.
8. Frame: 5
This frame shows a female character who
is signified as a sexual & dangerous
individual; She is ‘licking a gun’ which
shows us that she has a dangerous ego as
the green signifies emotion. really, women
in movies are portrayed to be innocent &
attractive. However, her innocent is
deceived by her sexual attractiveness.As
no writing is shown within this frame; it
makes the audience engage in finding out
who this woman is.
9. Frame: 6
This frame introduces an actor ‘Don
Johnson’ and this shows the audience that;
he is significant and he his dominated with
authority and power. This is shown by the
clothing he’s wearing and the red colour
connotes power and danger. To the
audience; he may be a protagonist as he is
a sheriff; however, the audience may feel
inferior as the character is portrayed to be
superior. In addition, he is wearing aviators
which make him seem cool. Again, his
significance is shown by the bold font.
10. Frame: 7
This frames shows a very powerful man
with a lot of authority. The blue connotes
wisdom and this is signified through the
appearance of this as; he is wearing formal
clothing and he is old at age. To the
audience; he is not to be underestimated
as he carries a weapon which shows that
he can be dangerous. also this person is
unknown so the audience would want to
know who this person is.
11. Frame: 8
Again, Robert Rodriguez name is shown.
This shows the audience that he is very
important within the film industry but
also within this movie. The orange
signifies both of the directors strength
and power.
12. Frame: 9
This frame shows the audience that the
company name is very important and it is a
well known production as; the name is
written in a white, bold font.
Again, the background is red and numerous
amounts of machetes which show the
audience that; the movie signifies rage,
violence and blood which shows that
audience that this movie is very gruesome.
13. Explanation
The opening for the movie ‘Machete’ shows us that the movie is very violent,
gruesome and there is a lot of killing involved. Also the opening signifies each
frame with bright, bold colours like red, blue, green and orange. The font used
for the director’s/actor’s name is bold and bright which also shows importance.
In addition, the elements used like tilt shows great importance to the character
and it shows that audience that; they are dangerous and ‘they’re not to mess
with’.
For my opening I will use big fonts with bright colour(especially red) to portray
thriller as the significant factor. Also I will show each character to be superior
so the audience feel intimidated and inferior. In addition, I will show the
director’s name more than once to show how importance the director is.
