Resistance is not Futile: Human
Innate Response to Bacterial
Attack
Power Rangers: Aisleen Floyd, Emma Smith and Mischka Alli
The Human Immune System
• Immunity refers to the relative state of resistance of the host to
infectious disease
• Two subdivisions:
B>innate or nonspecific immune system
The adaptive or specific immune system
White Blood Cells
Some white blood cells involved in destroying bacteria:
• Neutrophils - Ingesting bacteria
• Basophils - prevents blood clotting WBC’S can destroy bacteria
• Monocytes - phagocytize bacteria
• Lymphocytes:
1. B cells- Secrete anibodies
2. T cells- Destroy infected cells
Factors That Affect The Immune System
• Excessive sugar affect white blood cells
• Excess alcohol suppress the immune system
• Prolonged stress weakens the immune system
• Processed foods decrease your immunity
Ways To Improve The Defence System
• Vitamin C is the best natural immune booster
• Probiotics increases white blood cell production
• Vitamin E helps produce killer and B-cells
• Garlic increases the efficiency of antibody production
