Bill Brown and Miles Palmer met at MIT. Miles earned degrees in EE and
Chemistry and Bill earned degrees in Biology and Political ScienceChemistry, and Bill earned degrees in Biology and Political Science.
Bill left MIT to go into law. He attended Duke and practiced law in New York
City, first for Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine and then as partner for Sidley
Austin. He then moved into finance, working for Goldman Sachs, AIG and, g ,
Morgan Stanley. And from there to Duke as a Visiting Law Professor.
After MIT, Miles sought to become an astronaut, and in 1980 was nominated
by NASA and again in 1984 by the Air Force. Unfortunately, he was not
ultimately selected for the program Miles moved into research at SAIC andultimately selected for the program. Miles moved into research at SAIC and
spent the next 22 years developing technologies in electromagnetic launch,
rocket boosted weapons, bio-fuels, zero-emission coal plants, robotic vehicles,
and hybrid vehicles.
With Bill’s finance and legal background and Miles’ technology innovation
background, they partnered to form Palmer Labs and 8 Rivers Capital.

Dr. Miles Palmer is a cofounder of Palmer Labs and 8
Rivers Capital.
Dr. Palmer’s pioneering work in advanced aerospace
technology at SAIC has been recognized nationally by his
peers and resulted in a press conference hosted by Sandia

Palmer has four patents and over 40 publications in a
broad range of fields, including biomedicine, aerospace,
optics, communications, transportation, automotive
technology, robotics, power, energy, fuels, and
environmental chemistry

Chemistry degree at MIT, Dr. Palmer earned his PhD at the
University of California, San Diego. He earned scholarship
and academic society honors at both institutions. His
bachelor’s thesis at MIT led to advances in artificial skin

He is married and has two sons, one in college and one in

in flight testing and advanced aerospace technology in an
effort to become an Air Force Space Shuttle astronaut.
