CLASSROOM
POLICIES
1 Attentance is required.
2 Be on time and remain in class for the full class period.
3 Students who become disruptive or who fall asleep in class will
be asked to leave and will be counted as absent.
4 Students with three absences will receive an excessive
absence notice via e-mail to their ATLAS account. Once a
student has exceeded four absences, he or she may be with-
drawn from the course.
5 Absences due to circumstances, such as medical or personal
emergencies, will be dealt with on a case-to-case basis.
6 If you are unable to attend a class meeting, it is YOUR respon
sibility to get any necessary notes or assignments from a class
mate. Do not e-mail me asking what was in covered class.
7 Come to class prepared.
8 In-class participation is expected from all students.
9 You are advised to have the textbook as soon as possible as
you will be responsible for any assignments given. Anyone not
planning to buy the book needs to withdraw from the course
before this date.
10 Unless you have spoken to me about an emergency situation
before class, cell phones and all other electronic devices should
always be turned off; disruption from cell phones and other
electronic devices will count against your participation grade.
11 Check your ATLAS e-mail daily.
12 All assignments must be turned in directly to me in class. You
may only drop off assignments in the lab 5-155 or the Com
munications Department 5-231 if you have made special ar
rangements with me.
13 Except during group activities or discussions, no more than
one person at a time —student or instructor—should be speaking.
Side conversations and interruptions are not appropriate.
14 RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. We must all be conscious of behavior
that might upset or offend others in the room. Sexist or discrimina
tory language or remarks are not appropriate and will not be toler
ated.
15 When you are absent, it is the responsibility of the student to re
member to turn in missed assignments. Your instructor will not
remind you about missing work.
16 No late work will be accepted unless extraordinary circumstances
are involved. These circumstances will be determined on a case-
to-case basis.
17 There is no make-up work. Except in extreme cases or with prior
instructor approval, in-class assignments, quizzes, and exercises
may not be made up.
academic honesty
All work for this or any other course MUST be your own, original work.
Plagiarism—presenting someone else’s ideas, words, or other intellectual
property as your own—is a serious academic offense punishable by a fail-
ing grade on the assignment and/or a failing grade in the course.
students with disabilities
Students who qualify for academic accommodations must provide a letter
from the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) and discuss specific
needs with the professor, preferably during the first two weeks of class. The
Office for Students with Disabilities determines accommodations based on
appropriate documentation of disabilities. They are located in Bldg. 5, Rm.
216 and can be reached at 407-582-2229. For further information, please
refer to their website: http://www.valenciacollege.edu/osd/
