Google Helpouts are live, interactive video meetings between a user with a question and an expert qualified to answer that question. It just got easier for you to start providing these paid interactive expert help sessions on virtually any subject you wish. These interactive video meetings bring you expert help on virtually any subject, from how to fix “computer glitch, a leaky pipe, or a homework problem” and will “enable everyone, no matter where they are or what time it is, to easily connect with someone who can help”. Google has been recruiting experts, or Helpout Providers, for this new service. Those who have been in the program for any length of time see changes and improvements appearing on a daily basis. Today, Google announced another “improvement to our provider listing creation process” with elimination of the required Helpout Specialist evaluation. This change will go into effect Feb 10th. After that time, providers may simply upload an introductory video when they create a new helpout listing. In the past, we have had to conduct a sample helpout and evaluation with a helpout specialist before being approved. The on-line help sessions can be free or paid. If paid, the provider sets the fees but Google acts as the wallet and enforces a ‘100% satisfaction or money-back’ guarantee. Eliminating the manual approval will streamline bringing on more providers, but it also opens the possibility of less qualified providers slipping into the mix. Google is counting on user feedback to provide the final evaluation.
