social media, log-out of shared computers, and
ensure you have good password security.

3. HUSH-HUSH
Don’t share confidential information or third party
content without permission.

4. ACCURATE
Ensure your material is accurate,
gramtically correct and credible.

5. REAL
Have separate personal and professional profiles and
if writing about the University of Hull, be clear to
declare vested interest.

6. ETIQUETTE
Be polite and courteous*.
*Not that you need telling, obviously

7. WITHIN THE LAW
Be aware that any comment published online that
defames someone’s work or character can be
considered libel.

8. INTERACTIVE
Promote two way interactions and be sure to respond
to messages promptly.

9. SENSITIVE AND
SENSIBLE
Stop and think before posting to ensure it is
appropriate – ask yourself “how would I feel reading
that?”

10. EXPERT
Be the expert! Seek advice off colleagues to provide
that perfect response.
