About Neptune Solutions
Welcome
The Neptune System offers the first modular systems in the world to support water and
other fluid management projects The system has been developed by Neptune Solutions
Group and consists of multiple interlocking units which provide bespoke robust
constructions able to control, manage and withstand the forces created by large volumes of
water both static and active.
The barrier systems are constructed in form of a continuous wall against flood water which
has high volume and speed. Due to the ease of the installation the systems can be installed
on temporary or permanent bases. The barriers do not require large storage areas,
because they can be stored as sub-assemblies or stacked on top of each other.
This brochure outlines the technical and commercial aspects of the system and details the
installation, construction and cost advantages of the system compared to market
alternatives. Additional information is also available through registering to receive the
newsletter via the website and through various links to social network sites listed below.
Neptune Solutions was founded in March 2014 by Mike Mulvihill. Mike is a technical
structural engineer who first set upon the idea following the tsunami that hit Thailand
back in 2004. He believed that there was another way to protect communities from
flooding without the big expense and environmental damage caused by conventional
products and has invested substantial thought, time and effort into adapting his
original idea into the innovative modular solution available today.
Over the next 10 years, alongside the “day job” Mike focused on refining the technical
aspects of the central Neptune System and whilst doing so he identified a range of
over 20 potential applications across industries as diverse as Construction, Water
Management and Infrastructure, Agriculture and others.
As the System has developed Mike has sought technical and academic support from
Dr Ali Albadri who has assisted in the design and application of the underlying
established engineering principles central to the system. In addition Dr Albadri has
designed and undertaken the actual physical testing and the theoretically modeled
tests on the prototypes all of which support the fact that Mike’s design is a valid and
innovative challenge to traditional concrete dominated alternatives.
Having secured an initial round of funding Mike has completed the construction and
installation of flood defence products (permanent and temporary) as shown on the
front cover and has recently completed a holding tank installation alongside. These
three products are the current focus for Neptune and these areas will be used to
prove the design in a commercial arena prior to expanding the product range over
time.

The Neptune System:
Basic Construction
1. Surveying and scoping the site of work.
2. Conduct geological investigation to the ground.
3. Conduct review to utilities around the site and in the ground.
4. Produce the require engineering documents and drawings for site installation in line
with the CDM regulations.
5. Marking up the ground, establishing the locations for screw piles and the barriers.
6. Screwing the screw piles in the ground.
7. Building and constructing the legs for the barriers on top of the screw piles.
8. Building and constructing the sub-assemblies for each barrier.
Installation
The system requires very little ground preparations, It can be installed on any terrain
in any locations It is ideal for countries where concrete cannot be sourced.
The system is delivered on site on the back of an articulated wagon pre packed as 4
sub-assemblies. Helical piles are positioned. The 4 sub-assemblies are bolted
together using preset torque settings which requires minimum skill. The frame can
then be lifted into position on the helical piles which have been pre-installed. The
ancillaries can then be connected to the frame to complete.
Once the system is installed an independent surveyor will come to site to check and
confirm everything is ok.

Cladding can be installed to the system for aesthetics and beautification. Different colours
and textures on the cladding available for customer requirements.
The cladding is UV protected but may fade after 35 years. This is to further protect the
system from weathering and other factors. The system can also be backfilled if needed.
Lifespan
The lifespan of the system depends on the customer requirements, Dependent on thickness
of galvanizing and if other coatings and cladding are used.
We estimate by using the galvanizing, two pack epoxy and clad that the system ill last up to
35 years.
Please see the chart below for estimated lifespan of galvanized steel in different
environments.
If the system is backfilled, cathodic protection can be used which increases the lifespan
further

Areas the Neptune System Can be Deployed
As rivers overflow the Neptune System halts
the flow of water above ground and also
prevents the ingress of water as it seeps
down below the surface
This illustration represents marshy, boggy
ground where there is no solid foundation. The
Neptune System can easily be installed above
the water level.
Additional
Generate Electricity
Solar panels, wind & water turbines can be installed onto the system to generate its own
electricity. This can then be distributed to run substations keep, utilities companies cost
down to generate its own revenue.
Combined with an aqueduct and holding tank the electricity can be used to power the
pumps and electrical motorised systems.
The Rapid Response Team
The rapid response flood barrier solution is ideal for a fast & easy installation to areas which
are continuously being flooded and using long term flood barriers are not an option.
High risk flood areas are identified and monitored to determine when floods might occur.
When there is a high risk of flooding the rapid response, teams are allocated to such areas
to deploy the flood barriers.
Local communities and staff can be trained to install the system or Neptune's rapid
response team can install the system
The system is constructed of mild steel, protected with galvanizing and a 2 pack
epoxy resin (used in marine environments) A clad option is available to protect further
from weathering. Please see the cladding page for more information on clad options.

1. Have the barrier systems been prototypes and built?
Yes, the systems have been built and prototyped. For Holding Tanks and Flood
defence products
2. How easy is the assembly?.
High skilled staff are not required to build the barriers. After short period of training
the staff can build the barriers quickly. 4.5m x 5.0m barrier takes 4-6 hours to build.
1.0m x 1.5m barrier takes 20-30minutes to build.
3. Is it easy to transport?
Yes, each barrier can be transported as a complete unit or four main sub-assemblies
which can be transported on a small lorry.
4. What is the relative costs in comparison to the conventional sheet piles or
concrete?
There is substantial costs saving in using the Neptune Solutions systems in
comparison to using conventional products like sheet piles and concrete. The cost
saving is more than 30- 25% in comparison to using sheet piles, and more than
30% in comparison of using concrete walls. These percentages might vary little bit
depending on the complexity of the project.
5. How does the system work as an interlock structure?
There are fill up plates between each two units. The fill ups are held by clamp plates
which hold the plate to the barrier next to it. The barriers with the plates can form a
continuous straight, curved or even angled walls.
6. Can you hide the structure of the barrier?
Yes, cladding is available to cover the barrier. It provides cosmetic look as well as
security.
