Re: Michael Rael
M.S. International Management (Finance Specialization)
To whom it may concern:
Michael Rael was a student of my MIM510-International Trade Course in 2014. As his instructor, I am pleased to write a
letter of recommendation on Michael’s behalf.
My ongoing responsibilities as a Financial Policy Analyst for the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Forest Service allow me
to leverage professional knowledge in the classroom. Duties with the USDA/Forest Service require that I author decision
papers to facilitate improvements in financial management and policy within the Agency while also making policy rec-
ommendations and policy interpretations. Experience in the development of financial management policies augments my
course instruction on international trade, sanctions, tariffs, and the role they play in political agendas. In addition to my
duties at the USDA/Forest Service and as a course instructor I also serve as a course designer for Colorado State Universi-
ty –Global Campus.
Throughout my course, Michael demonstrated an outstanding mastery of a range of concepts related to international trade
as well as the impacts of protectionism and sanctions on global trade. In addition to excelling throughout the term, Mi-
chael authored papers examining the nature of the WTO trade dispute settlement process, trade subsidies, the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), and the risks faced by
firms as they seek to expand global market share. Insightful research he conducted on informal labor and non-tariff barri-
ers was also noteworthy.
Michael exhibits an excellent ability to summarize multidimensional issues in a succinct and appropriate manner. He
demonstrates excellent written communication and a knack for drafting crisp presentations of research findings. Mr.
Rael’s participation in my class added value to the discourse and I would strongly recommend him to any organization
seeking intelligent individuals with professional communication and writing skills. Michael was a great student and
earned high marks on a consistent basis. His reliability, leadership skills, thoughtfulness, and aptitude to think critically
will make him a valuable addition to any team he joins.
Sincerely,
Dr. Osman Masahudu
