1. I had the pleasure of working with Michael Bearup from August to
November of 2015 when he was performing an Internship for his
degree completion from WMU’s Interdisciplinary Health Services.
He spent 200 hours with the Organization Development and
Learning (OD&L) team within the Bronson Center for Learning at
Bronson Healthcare Group, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Michael’s curiosity for understanding the big picture was apparent
upon meeting him to discuss the possibility of the internship. This
characteristic of using curiosity to understand more about
opportunities that arose was a strength that enhanced his learning
and productivity while he was with the OD&L team. This curiosity
was balanced by the ability to compile what he was learning into
meaningful outcomes. With this combination of skills, Michael
required minimal direction on tasks and quickly exceeded
expectations.
As an unpaid, student intern, Michael willingly attended numerous
learning events such as: Bronson New Hire Orientation, Bronson
New Leader Pathway, and Patient and Family Advisory Council
meetings. He expressed a desire to learn as much as he could
about Bronson and adjusted his personal and work schedules to
participate in the learning experiences.
Among many contributions, one of the biggest projects he took on
was the creation of an educational video to enhance the Bronson
Leader’s process of onboarding new staff. He completed the
assignment by partnering with the OD&L team among other content
experts and Leaders at Bronson. He used the curiosity he had
during his own onboarding experience and the input of others to
assist in development of the video.
Michael is self-driven with an ability to use his understanding of the
big picture and execution of details to exceed expectations. Michael
will make a great addition to any team he joins.
Sincerely,
