From the President’s Desk
“The importance of a strong building code is most evident after a disaster”.
As is evident by the damaging weather events throughout the mid-west
region, building resilient structures has become of paramount importance.
North West Building Officials and Code Administrators is an International
Code Council Chapter organization comprised of local government
members involved in building code compliant and safe structures throughout
their communities. While no one can prevent disasters from striking, we can
reduce or eliminate the damage they cause by acting as the first line of
defense in this effort. I am honored to be your NWBOCA president this year.
Last year has been challenging for most of us as we continued to navigate
the uncharted territory of remote work and virtual inspections while
maintaining best health and safety practices. I am proud of the dedicated
effort of our fellow code officials and inspectors who kept the momentum
going in spite of all the unprecedented challenges.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the NWBOCA board for the year

NWBOCA board would like to thank Darrel Taylor and Raoul Johnston for
their invaluable service to our organization throughout the years and we
wish them well for the next phase in their lives.
2022 is off to a great start with an informative and well received virtual
training webinar by American Wood Council. NWBOCA has been offering
free virtual training seminars since the onset of the pandemic and we will
endeavor to continue to provide this service to our membership till we can
return to regular in person lunch and learn seminars.
Last November, we held three successful fall school training sessions that
offered valuable continuing education credits and detailed information on
multiple topics.
Our priorities this year include continuing to provide interesting, topical
speakers for each monthly meeting and the fall school. We appreciate your
feedback and input on the topics you would like to gain more knowledge
about. We have a draft schedule of 2022 meeting dates attached, so you
can save the dates. We hope it helps you plan in advance to join us for the
upcoming events this year. As we confirm speakers for these events, we will
fill in the information on the website and email it out to the members.

We are announcing the certification contest again this year and hope that,
by announcing it early in the year, more people will have time to participate.
To do so, just email a copy of any new ICC certifications that you earn this
year to nwboca.news@gmail.com. The person in First place with the most
certifications will win $250. Second place wins $150, and third place will
win $75.

reduced membership fee to ex board members who are currently retired

Last but not the least, NWBOCA is a non-profit volunteer organization. We
welcome help from our membership to organize various events such as the
Golf outing for charity and to join in as a Board member. It is a rewarding
experience and is a great networking opportunity to broaden your contacts
