Capsule shell: The capsule shell is basically composed of gelatin, a plasticizer and water.It may
contain additional ingredients such as preservative, coloring and opacifying agents, flavorings, sugars,
acids and medicaments to achieve desired effects.

Beside fulfilling local demand GCL have established very good business relationships with the
overseas buyers. Now they are exporting empty hard gelatin capsules to different countries in Asia,
Africa, Europe and America.
Their exports of capsules began in 1991 with only 50 million capsules. Now the figure has increased
has many fold.
In the year 2002 the export figure stands more than 1200 million capsules of all sizes, which indicate
growing confidence of overseas buyers on GCL.

International Standard produced by reputed manufacturers as well as by GCL.
Raw materials quality must comply with the standard approved by FDA and WHO etc. as per current
need by the Pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Robert Pauli Scherer (1906–1960) was an American inventor who founded the RP Sherer
Corporation.
In 1933, Scherer invented the rotary die encapsulation process, revolutionizing the soft-gelatin
encapsulation field. He founded the R. P. Scherer Corporation to commercialize his invention. R.P.
Scherer was acquired by Cardinal Health, Inc. in 1998. and subsequently named Catalent Pharma
