The document proposes solutions to racial profiling and bullying in Hawaii schools. It discusses how Wasatch High School in Utah successfully implemented a "Cool to Care" program using rewards and incentives to encourage kindness and reduce bullying. The document suggests Hawaii schools could adopt a similar approach, using prizes, donations, and security cameras to recognize and reward positive behavior while punishing bullying. This could help shift attitudes and create a more unified, supportive environment in Hawaiian schools.
2. “For years, Hawaiians
have avoided talk of race
and hate crimes. That
doesn't mean the island
state doesn't have a
problem” –Southern
Poverty Law Center
3. All over the state of Hawaii everyday there is
merciless bullying on white children and teens by the
native Polynesians.
4. “White children in our schools are harassed, intimidated, and physically
abused. The last school day of the year in Hawaii, for example, is
traditionally called “kill a haole day”.
6. Wasatch promotes a system
throughout the school
called “Cool to Care”. Every
time someone does
something nice for another
person (or stops bullying)
gets a cool to care card and
can enter a big raffle
drawing.
7. The kids are excited to go above
and beyond to make the school a
better place. At the end of the
year all the raffle tickets are taken
and many prizes are given away.
But there is a final prize that
everyone is anticipating…
8. There is a Cool to Care car that is given away each year and there are cool to care stickers on
the vehicle to show the world that it is “cool to care” and to stop bullying. It’s a really big deal.
9. I went to Wasatch High School and it is an
amazing environment. Students need that push
and motivation to “Expect to Excel”. The
bullying is so low and everyone is excited and
eager to do kind things for others.
10. Hawaii could start doing similar things in their schools.
They could have people donate money etc. to help
make this cool to care system a state wide thing. At
Wasatch High the cool to care car is donated by a local
dealership :)
11. Something that I personally thought
up would be to have a video camera
system in place to be able to catch
every kind act of service or bullying
so that it could be reported
immediately and that those who did
something kind could be given a cool
to care card and those who were
bullying could be punished. This
product would also save a lot of
energy in the schools.
12. I truly believe the attitudes will change in these schools and will bring about a greater sense
of unity as they all strive towards a common goal rather than being against one another.
