EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
2009-2010 Heriot-Watt University
Msc in Marine Biodiversity and Biotechnology
During this master I acquired extensive experience in biological and
environmental surveying and monitoring (flora and fauna) as well as biodiversity,
biotechnology, ecotoxicology, conservation and EIA.
Final Year Project: An assessment of long-term change in communities of
intertidal harpaticoid copepods in Firth of Forth.
The report was compiled utilising appropriate literature (auto-reviewed),
meiobenthos sampling, ecotoxicological investigation, relevant identification
processes and resources, in addition to analytical, statistical, and predictive
experiments (project available upon request).
2009-2010 Orleans University (France)
Master in Terrestrial Ecosystem
During this master I acquired knowledge in ecology, biodiversity, biology and
physiology of plants and animals as well as statistics.
2008-2009 Heriot-Watt University
Bsc (Hons) in Biological Sciences
Dissertation: Studies into the functions of PM19, a putative membrane protein in
Arabidopsis thaliana:
The report was executed using appropriate literature (auto-reviewed), as well as
statistical and predictive experiments which involved DNA/RNA extraction and PCR
analysis. Results on this model were delivered via oral presentation at a university
seminar.
2005-2008 Orleans University, France
Bachelor Degree in Biology of Organisms
During this degree I acquired knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry,
genetic, ecology, animal/vegetal biology and physiology and statistics.
2. SKILLS
INTERPERSONAL
Presentations and written reports have been core assessments in each of my degrees. In
consistently completing these assessments to a high standard, it has been necessary to cultivate
and employ pragmatic, adaptable organisation and planning skills within a dynamic, productive
team environment. I am therefore punctual, reliable, responsible, and effective. Moreover, my
previous experience and accumulative knowledge empowers me with competence and
confidence, particularly in the areas of molecular diagnostics, taxonomy, aquaculture,
ecotoxicology, and EIA.
COMPUTERS
• Practical ability to use: MS Office Word; Excel; PowerPoint; OpenOffice Write;
• Previous and continued experience with statistical software programs - Minitab and Primer;
• Operating Systems: Windows (XP, Vista, Seven) and Mac (OSX).
LANGUAGES
• Professional, collaborative standard of spoken and written English (Heriot-Watt University,
Scotland); overall band IELTS English test 7.
• Functional, usable knowledge of Spanish, German (beginner level);
• French spoken as first language.
OTHER RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS
• Full and clean driving licence,
• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver licence with wetsuit specialization.
• Laboratory animal science course – education and training for persons using animals for
scientific and educational purposes.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
November 2014-Now PhD candidate at the university of Turku (Finland) at the
department of Cell Biology and Anatomy with Adjunct professor Tiina Laitala-Leinonen, on how
microRNAs are regulating the bone homeostasis, wrote the first manuscript on the
characterisation of microRNA expression during osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation. I
also worked on a project with PET Centre on the traceability and biokinetics of microRNA (anti-
miR-21) attached to the bisphosphonate compound. I also worked on microRNA expression mice
models after fracture injury.
December 2012-May 2013 Volunteering at the Museum of South Australia working on various
projects such as meiofauna identification in Antarctica using molecular techniques
on 18s rDNA gene;
September 2011-July 2013 Molecular Diagnostic Scientist at Cerberus Sciences (Adelaide,
South Australia) on rodent pathogens using PCR-RTPCR and use of new molecular
techniques to extract both RNA and DNA from a wide variety of tissue samples as
well as faeces. Research and design for new primers/probes for PCR;
3. 2011 Four month contracted position as a Research Assistant, working on the impact of
desalination plants on phytoplankton communities, and the possible adaptation of
diatoms species in response to changing levels of salinity - based in Flinders
University (Adelaide, South Australia), this included conducting formal instruction
of tertiary students in Laboratory Practice and Procedures;
2009 Field trip in Oban (Scotland), surveying experience on the coast;
2008 Identification training on the Flora and Fauna in Luc-sur-Mer (France);
2008 President and creator of the biological association “Ecosysterre” based in Orleans
(France) doing identification and surveying.
