To Whom It May Concern:
It is my great pleasure to write this recommendation letter for Mr. Matthew Rodgers
for his application to enroll in your Ph.D. program. As a Sr. System Analyst and Site
IT Leader, I have supervised and worked with many coop and intern students in the
past several years. I believe Matt is by far the best coop that I have ever supervised.
He is very brilliant as an IT professional, yet he is humble and kind on the personal
level. He is a highly self-motivated individual with a great passion and determination
to pursue research in the field of IT technology.
In summer 2005, Matt started to work for me as a coop student at the Chesterfield
Plant of Honeywell Nylon LLC. During the three- month summer term, he partic ipated
in four (4) different projects. Two of them were to develop business automation
enabling software using Microsoft Visual Studio.NET and ASP technology. In these
projects, Matt successfully demonstrated his ability to work professionally and
independently with little supervision and delivered software product in a timely
manner of an exceptionally high quality. Furthermore, I was very impressed with his
problem solving skills, and his insight and thoughtfulness in designing the software
with a user-friendliness interface. For example, in developing the safety metrics
dashboard (a web-based application), he creatively designed and developed several
data collection interfaces which are automated and very effective.
The third project that Matt participated in required working with other team
members to develop an integrated software system. In this project, he proved to be
an excellent team player and showed willingness to share knowledge and coach
other team members to be successful. The last job he did was not so much
programming related but instead dealt with physical inventory of IT equipment on
the site, in which Matt displayed his flexibility and great work ethics.
With his exceptional research capacity, passion for the IT technology, fine personal
quality and excellent interpersonal skills, I believe Matt would do great in the field he
choose. I would like to enthusiastically recommend Mr. Matthew Rodgers to your
Ph.D. program without any reservations.
Regards,
Yejia Wu, Ph.D.
