To whom this may concern:
Please accept my application for the position as advertised on your official website. I will be available to
start immediately and my schedule is flexible around your needs. I am confident that my engineering
experience through completing the co-op program will make me the perfect candidate for this position.
Both engineering positions I worked during my co-op terms involved a lot of data management and the
use of Microsoft Office. I am ready and very excited to work with your company and to gain the
knowledge I need to further develop my skills.
From past experiences and education, I have acquired the necessary skills to succeed. During my work
terms I had the chance to work for both a power plant in Nova Scotia and Suncor in Fort McMurray. In
both positions I was able to work with a team of engineers. We worked as individuals with limited
supervision and then came together weekly to discuss our individual projects. Due to having many
different responsibilities with tight time constraints it was important to know how to prioritize the
important ones in order to meet the deadlines. I developed good problem solving skills and a better
knowledge of Microsoft Office during both job opportunities.
Throughout my entire life I have been working with computers, as it is one of my passions. I use a
computer every day at home and have used them professionally during all my previous work experiences
as well as within school projects. In everything I set out to accomplish I share one common goal. This
goal is to take on new and exciting challenges so that I am always learning something new and gaining
new experiences that will benefit me either professionally or personally.
P.S. I would really like to thank you for your time and consideration as I believe that I am the right
person for the job. I am available anytime for an interview and I look forward to hearing from you. My
resume is enclosed for you to review. You may contact me anytime at (587) 439-8789 to arrange for an
interview. Also if you need any other information or documentation send me an email at
matthew.aucoin@live.com and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Once again thank you for
the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Matthew Aucoin

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Suncor Energy Inc. Fort McMurray, AB January 2011 – August 2011
Advance Process Control Team Member/ Co-Op Student
• Worked with fellow engineers in the Advance Process Control team for Extraction; which was
responsible for maintaining all the controllers and instruments throughout the Extraction plants.
• Created, modified or deleted controller and instrument configurations using OPC Data Historian
• Completed a full clean-up on the Control Process Monitor (CPM) system by removing inactive
controllers and instruments, and modified the configurations of the active ones.
• Analyzed controllers and instruments for all Extraction plants using a program known as
CAIMS, a section of CPM, and grouped them in categories based on their issue.
• Created a report multiple times throughout the work term, including pie charts to display how
all controllers and instruments were operating at that time.
• Created further detailed reports for controllers and instruments by plotting trends of their input
and output values from the beginning of the year to the current date
• Communicated with Control Room Operators to determine problems with the instruments and
controllers.
• Submitted work requests to have the issues looked after, and then handled the issues I had the
authority to work with. The service factor for each plant increased to optimized levels of 90%
once work was completed.

Nova Scotia Power Lingan, NS September 2009 – December 2009
Engineering Assistant/ Co-Op Student
• Worked with a team of engineers who were responsible for the installation of mercury capture
systems at various power plants located in Nova Scotia, with the sole purpose of reducing the
amount of mercury entering the atmosphere through the stacks.
• Created process diagrams that measured real time data of the mercury capture systems, so that
co-workers could monitor these screens and make decisions such as maintenance.
• Completed a cost review for the project progress at the end of each month by comparing the
estimated costs with the actual costs for that month, with the purpose of locating errors in the
spreadsheet.
• Recorded and then typed the minutes during each team conference call, so that the team could
review what was discussed during a future conference.
• Recorded questions and answers while attending training sessions meant to teach the employees
about the maintenance and operation of the mercury capture system. With the information
gained during these sessions I created a question and answer document for employees to use as
a reference.
• Created order sheets for spare parts needed for the mercury capture systems, as well as stock
sheets for the plant, including prices so the plant can order the same items again if necessary.
• Monitored all activities completed at Lingan Power Plant including the construction of the
mercury systems, with the sole purpose of becoming familiar with how a project is managed and
completed.
