This document summarizes the results of benchmarks performed on an SGI Altix ICE8200 cluster to compare the performance of OpenFOAM simulations using OpenMPI and SGI MPT for different problem sizes. Three meshes with 0.25, 1, and 4 million cells were used to simulate laminar flow in a 2D lid-driven cavity. The benchmarks found that for smaller problem sizes, OpenMPI achieved up to 80% more timesteps per day than SGI MPT, but for larger problems with 4 million cells, SGI MPT was up to 40% faster.
