Melissa's employer, James Knight, felt he was too attracted to Melissa and fired
her because of his own weakness. The firing had nothing to do with anything
Melissa did, just how she looked. She had worked for James for 10 years before
being terminated for being attractive.
Not only was she terminated for being attractive but she also suffered sexual
harassment from James. He would text her things like she would notice a bulge
in his pants if she dressed too revealing. He also asked her how often she
experienced an orgasm.
When James's wife, Jeanne, found the text messages she demanded that he
terminate Melissa and he did. The reason - he felt that if he continued to work

Melissa did fight back. She fought in the state courts in Iowa for 3 years and
ended up loosing in the Supreme Court. An all male court found in James's favor.
The court determined that Melissa was not terminated because of sex
discrimination but because James and Jeanne felt that Melissa was a threat to
their marriage. I am appalled that any court in this country can find that any
women can be terminate for being attractive!!

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So regardless of how we feel
we look, there is someone out there that thinks we are attractive. Someone who
can put us in the position of being terminated for being attractive. While this story
is about a female, the same thing can happen to a male. It is not just woman who

3. It's very discomforting to find that the laws that we believed were in place to

only hope that people pay attention and the laws are fixed so this cannot happen
again.
