RESUME
WHO AM I
I am a highly creative, well organized, self motivated industrial designer with a bent toward practical, aesthetically
pleasing, and environmentally responsible solutions to design problems.
Throughout my varied career I have sought to challenge myself technically, intellectually, and aesthetically. This has
resulted in providing me with a broad exposure to a variety of industries, manufacturing processes, and people. My
professional experience ranges from technical aircraft design to building adobe homes.
In addition to my technical skills I am a good manager capable of inspiring those whom I work with to excel. I have
served on various public boards and planning committees, and currently serve as a volunteer ecclesiastical leader of
a church in our community and the county chair of the political party I am affiliated with. I enjoy the interactions I
have in these organizations.
Although I work well with people, a large part of my career I have worked in my home office isolated from my
peers. I have highly developed communication skills including writing and using a variety of software based tools.
EXPERIENCE
Mechanical design Consultant ● 2007 to Present
I have worked with various fabricators and vendors in developing sheet metal, machined, injection molding and
structural steel products ranging from architectural features to industrial products. I have a good understanding of
metal working processes and fabrication including welding, forming, and machining. Using Solidworks and other
CAD applications I am able to explore manufacturing options as well as proving design form fit and function issues
while in the design phase of product development. I work well with fabricators, drawing on their experience and
expertise to simplify production, yet at the same time challenging them to explore new possibilities when
applicable.
Becker mining america ● Mechanical Designer ● April 2011 to Dec 2014
I designed and monitored the fabrication of electrical equipment used in underground mining, including power
centers, switch gear, and distribution boxes. The equipment was subject to harsh underground mining conditions
yet contained highly sophisticated electronic monitoring, relaying, and control devices. Design considerations
included durability, manufacturability, maintenance, safety, and cost. The equipment was primarily custom
fabricated from sheet metal and structural steel. I used AutoCad Inventor as my primary design tool, providing
animated 3D visualization for marketing purposes, accurate 3d models for prototyping, and integrated data fro
CAM and 2D fabrication processes.

Architectural Design and Construction ● 1989 to Present
I design and build passive solar adobe homes specializing in energy efficient dwellings with a high standard of
aesthetics and ergonomics. I have also built using structural insulated panels, insulated concrete units, as well as
stick built construction. Besides using earth friendly materials I integrated state of the art mechanical and electrical
systems to both enhance livability and conserve energy. Whenever possible, I like to involve the end user in as
many phases of the project as they are interested or willing, giving them an opportunity to learn new skills and
become personally attached to the project. I thrive while learning and teaching. In addition to my own projects I
have also participated in the design and documentation of custom architectural features including glass and steel
staircases, range hoods, and custom cabinetry. I am a certified LEED Green Associate and have training in RESNET
and other home energy auditing programs.
Liberty Aerospace ● Mechanical Designer ● July 2000 to March 2007
I was primarily responsible for designing the instrument panel and integrating various configurations of instrument
options. This included working with and designing composite and sheet metal components, wiring harnesses and
wire routing, ventilation and cooling systems, fitting and adapting OEM instruments and radios. In addition to the
instrument panel I worked extensively with all aspects of fitting the electrical components throughout the aircraft.
As need arose I also participated in the design and documentation of other mechanical components including
landing gear, wing tips, and control surface rigging. The aircraft was designed using Solidworks. Documentation met
ANSI Y14.5 standards and had to stand up to rigorous FAA auditing and document control standards.
James River HandiCup ● Industrial Design Consultant ● 1988 to 1989
James River hired me as a consultant to improve their cup molding equipment which was prone to excessive
maintenance. By strengthening the structure, modifying the plumbing systems, changing the mold base material,
and refining the electrical control systems we were able to significantly reduce machine down time. Another project
for James River was designing and prototyping a case packing machine. I used photo sensors, pneumatics,
conveyors, and timing controls to provide an alternative to the hand packing of the fragile cups in their shipping
boxes. This machine successfully reduced the lifting and bending intensive tasks previously performed by factory
workers.
Theta Design Resources ● Industrial Design Consultant ● 1985 to 1987
While at Theta Resources I worked as a senior design project leader carrying client projects from concept through
prototype. The process included becoming intimately familiar with the clients needs and goals, then presenting
potential solutions using sketches and models. Detailed renderings and models were produced to further prove
aesthetics and human factors. As the designs matured drawings for engineering analysis and manufacturing were
generated and finally prototyped. In addition to design and project management I was also responsible for
implementation of CAD (Unigraphics) into the design process at Theta. This included evaluating and specifying the
system and training the staff of industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and draftsmen to use it effectively.
SCARAB Robotics Industrial Designer ● 1983 to 1985
I was the project leader for designing a computer controlled beverage mixing and serving machine which utilizes a
custom 5 axis robotic arm, fluid metering, and voice recognition computer controls. I managed the design process
with various mechanical and software engineers as well as building and troubleshooting the prototyping of the first
unit.
