12. Key qualifications (relevant to the project):
Martin Herold has worked more that 19 years with solid waste management on projects both
in Denmark and abroad according to IFI (EU, SIDA, Swedish and Danish EPA) procedures.
His experience covers planning, design, implementation and operation of municipal and
industrial waste collection, transportation, treatment and disposal systems as well as a focus
on organisational structures and policies. Martin Herold has worked as an expert in strategic
planning and feasibility studies within solid waste management, including institutional and
organisational aspects, capacity building, training, economic and financial analyses.
Through international projects he has a wide experience in the implementation of international
waste management standards at national, regional and local level in various countries, many
of which contribute to the approximation projects for applicant countries of the European
Union.
2011 – 2006 Martin Herold was the managing director of KSRR (a statutory Joint Authority) in
Kalmar, Sweden. This new political organisation included waste management from 4
municipalities. Main tasks during this employment were; strategic waste planning, service
tariffs and municipal costs, intermunicipal cooperation’s, organisational development, landfill
(200 acres) as well as different projects concerning efficiency in waste collection.
1999 – 2006 employed as the head of the waste section in the Municipality of Svendborg,
Denmark Martin Herold worked with the planning within the municipal service deliveries such
as waste, water, CHP and bus traffic. As coordinator he implemented the quality system
ISO9001:2000 for all mentioned areas. As Svendborg is on the south coast of Denmark there
was special planning as to ensure waste management on the inhabited islands. Strategic
planning within the region of Fyn and the plans for the municipal merger of 3 municipalities in
2006/2007 was a main responsibility.
1996 – 1999 as an employee at AVV I/S (Intermunicipal Waste management company)
Martin Herold had the responsibility to apply tenders for waste collection in the municipalities
of Hjørring and Hirtshals as well as to ensure administration and planning for the collection in

these areas. Furthermore he implemented a quality management system in the CHP in
Hjørring. Development of waste collection systems and recycling stations was part of the job.
Through Martin Herolds work within municipal companies he has designed several tender
documents for collection services of municipal waste a.o. Construction of landfills and
leachate purification ponds.
Martin Herold recently acted as coordinator on a SIDA project on support to local self-
governments in the EU integration process. 2014 started as head of Tourism in Lønstrup,
Denmark using he skills developing the areas business cooperations working to enhance the
business potentials of tourism.
