3. Visiting Petra
Jordan is a country in the Middle East, bordered by Saudi Arabia, Iraq,
Syria, and Israel. Many visitors make a trip to the country to explore Petra,
an ancient city built more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans at a
major junction of trade routes between Asia and Europe.
4. Visiting Petra
Known as the “rose-red city,” Petra hasn’t changed in hundreds of years.
Visitors enter through the Siq, a narrow gorge between towering cliffs.
Walking through the Siq is an experience in itself, but beyond lies Al-
Khazneh, the treasury, which was carved into the pink rock face of the cliffs
in the early first century. Cutting the facades and multi-roomed buildings of
Al-Khazneh out solid rock was a remarkable engineering feat. That is just the
beginning of the city, however. To get to truly know Petra, visitors should
allocate at least four days.
