GRIEF
RELIEF
Sometimes children
don’t seem to care.
It’s not uncommon
for some children,
especially those
under age 5 to show
little feeling when told of the death of a
relative. And while it may seem a child
should feel sad, the child may have
little understanding of the meaning of
death. The child may not have been
particularly close to the deceased or
realized that death is permanent. Allow
and accept the child’s honest expression
and don’t make the child feel guilty or
pressured.

soil discs and seeds in a small
plastic container, which kids
could then take home.
Triton FFA members Katie
Fitzgerald, Chloe Staub and
Maddie Styndl helped people
make butterfly feeder trays.
These small plastic trays were
held up by colored pony beads
and filled with food for butter-
flies.
Two dairy princesses, Haley
Reber and Morgan O’Brien, also
served ice cream to any attend-
ees who wanted it.
While Henslin believes that
most of the attendees at the
event had some connection to
agriculture, some did not. Some
showed up to socialize.
“I’m just here talking, eating,
having a good time,” Marge Ste-
phens said.
Others showed up for the
food.
“I had to eat,” Kasson resident
Al Hodge said. “And this was a
lot easier than cooking.”
While Henslin thought that
the crowd was a little smaller
than last year, the Farm Bureau
will continue to hold the event in
the future.
Gaps
Continued from A5
It also is a concern for court-
room security, the sheriff said,
as the security sergeant moni-
tors activity in the court during
hearings and trials. The proce-
dure, he said, is for the sergeant
to contact the court security
deputy if something is observed
on camera. The lack of a radio
signal, he said, could become a
safety concern to the staff and
public.
Another area of concern, Rose
said, is the lack of signal in the
lower level of the courthouse
where inmates are held before
appearing in court. Portable
radios, he said, are not able to
connect with the repeater sys-
tem from that floor and transport
deputies are unable to communi-
cate with courthouse security or
dispatch if there are problems in
the holding area or the elevator.
Commissioner John Allen
said that the county had not
closed the courthouse remodel-
ing project yet as final cost fig-
ures have not been determined.
He also said that the county had
been told the radios would work.
“We can address it when the
building is closed out and know
what is left,” he said.
“These issues have been in
existence for 20 years,” said
Commissioner Rod Peterson.
“I’m willing to wait another six
months. We’ve never had a sig-
nal (in these areas).”
Commissioner David Erick-
son said his only concern was
relying on Motorola for guid-
ance in fixing the problem since
it was their radio system.
“If we don’t address it now
and we do have an issue in the
courthouse,” Rose said, “it
would cost a lot more.”
The radio system, he said, is
proprietary to Motorola and the
available grant would not cover
the cost of a “second opinion.”
The county has already spent
a lot of money to install a secu-
rity system, he said.
Erickson added that despite
the fact the problem has existed
before “we didn’t know before
we had a problem. Now we
know.”
Board Chair Steven Gray said
it appears the county is “missing
one key part to make the larger
system work.”
Ultimately the purchase re-
quest was approved on a 3-2
vote with Gray, Erickson and
Commissioner Tim Tjosaas
voting in favor and Allen and
Peterson voting against.
Commissioners also ap-
proved three recommendations
from the Planning and Zoning
Commission.
A Conditional Use Permit
for Jennie-O Turkey Store to
allow an expansion of overall
manure storage through the
replacement and addition to
barns with no increase in ani-
mal units was approved.
A one-year extension of an
Interim Use Permit for Randall
Reese/Gary Imhoff in Hayfield
Township was also approved.
They also approved an amend-
ment to the Dodge County Zon-
ing Ordinance to repeal and re-
place language regarding signs
to bring the ordinance into com-
pliance with a U.S. Supreme
Court ruling.
In other actions the commis-
sioners:
•Accepted a donation to the
Sheriff’s Office from the estate
of long-time Mantorville resi-
dent Joyce Walker who died last
year. They donation will be used
to help fund the bag screener/X-
ray machine the Sheriff’s Office
has budgeted for next year;
•Approved a temporary on-
sale liquor license for the Dodge
County Agricultural & Me-
chanical Society for the Beer
Garden and Concession Stand
in the Grandstand at the Dodge
County Fair;
•Approved county appropria-
tions to various agencies includ-
ing the Southeast Minnesota
Initiative Fund, Southern MN
Tourism, SE MN Area Agency
on Aging, SEMCAC, Dodge
County SWCD, Historical So-
ciety and Dodge County Fair
Board
•Approved a retainer agree-
ment with Briggs & Morgan
to provide legal services to the
county relating to tax court fil-
ings for McNeilus Truck & Mfg.
and Shopko Stores;
•Appointed Walt Wyttenbach
to the Environmental Board of
Adjustment and,

moving into a new chapter of her
life.
When asked what the biggest
challenge of being a part-owner
with her parents was, she re-
sponded, “being a part-owner
with my parents.” Although
Lambright has a background in
graphic arts, she is exploring the
possibility of going into a field
where nutrition is the key ingre-
dient to a healthy life. Perhaps
she was the reason you can pur-
chase gluten free pizzas at Jim-
my’s.
Mona commented that it has
been a steady business and there
were lots of advantages to selling
pizza. “You can get what you
want, when you want and can
take it out or eat it here.” She
said. “It also won’t cost a fortune
to feed a lot of people.”
Roger and Mona got into the
business because they loved Kas-
son and they wanted to promote
a family oriented business and
provide a safe place for teenagers
to work and to hang out.
Both the Draheims agreed that
the thing they would miss most
would be the downtown Christ-
mas festivities. Mona would
dress up like Mrs. Santa Claus
and Roger would be Santa him-
self, a jolly old elf baking Christ-
mas cookies for all the kids.
Last year they baked over 40
dozen cookies for the kids and
then helped those kids decorate
the cookies right there in the din-
ing room. They had over 300
people come through to Christ-
mas Carole and harvest the
Christmas cookies.
Roger had previously been
working in tech-services for the
Rochester Post-Bulletin before
they took over the pizza shop.
After 24 years of baking, Mr. &
Mrs. Pizza are handing the pizza
flipper over to local entrepre-
neurs Chad and Lisa Tenkley.

From left, Lisa Tenkley, Chad Tenkley, Roger Draheim, Mona
Draheim and Nicole Lambright represent the new and former
ownership of Jimmy’s Pizza in Kasson. The deal was officially
signed and sealed on June 13.
an investor and involved in Real
Estate buying and development.
In this case, he and his wife say
that they are going to be hands
on with this labor of love. Other
than the kids worrying about the
parent’s weight gain, they have
been on board with the new en-
deavor. The Tenkleys have two
children, Faith, 12 and Ashlee
who is 9.
Lisa, in addition to having
been a stay at home mom, has
also been a personal trainer and
has been a volunteer coach for
volleyball, softball and soccer.
Overall, the new owners are
thrilled at the possibilities of piz-
za production.
The Jimmy’s Pizza chain is
very popular, especially in the
Midwest where they boast over
60 franchises. The thing that
makes the pizza different than all
the rest is the fresh mixed dough
from the Dough Shop in Wis-
consin, the 100% real cheeses
including Mozzarella, Monterey
Jack and Parmesan and above all,
the secret sauce that couldn’t be
divulged by either former or cur-
rent owners.
Jimmy’s will continue with
the same business hours which
are posted as: Sunday through
Thursday 4-9 p.m. and Friday
and Saturday from 4-10 p.m.
Jimmy’s is a full service pizzeria
which can accommodate eat in
or take out and they also deliver
within the city of Kasson. They
can also accommodate parties
of up to 32 people and as with
all larger parties, you must call
ahead to make arrangements.
It’s a new slice of life for both
the old owners and the new own-
ers and they are all hoping that
this new chapter will be piled
high with delicious toppings and
piping hot memories.

  • 1. THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2016 | DODGE COUNTY INDEPENDENT | A5 GRIEF RELIEF Sometimes children don’t seem to care. It’s not uncommon for some children, especially those under age 5 to show little feeling when told of the death of a relative. And while it may seem a child should feel sad, the child may have little understanding of the meaning of death. The child may not have been particularly close to the deceased or realized that death is permanent. Allow and accept the child’s honest expression and don’t make the child feel guilty or pressured. Triton FFA members Katie Fitzgerald, Chloe Staub and Maddie Styndl helped people make butterfly feeder trays. These small plastic trays were held up by colored pony beads and filled with food for butter- flies. Two dairy princesses, Haley Reber and Morgan O’Brien, also served ice cream to any attend- ees who wanted it. While Henslin believes that most of the attendees at the event had some connection to agriculture, some did not. Some showed up to socialize. “I’m just here talking, eating, having a good time,” Marge Ste- phens said. Others showed up for the food. “I had to eat,” Kasson resident Al Hodge said. “And this was a lot easier than cooking.” While Henslin thought that the crowd was a little smaller than last year, the Farm Bureau will continue to hold the event in the future. Gaps Continued from A5 It also is a concern for court- room security, the sheriff said, as the security sergeant moni- tors activity in the court during hearings and trials. The proce- dure, he said, is for the sergeant to contact the court security deputy if something is observed on camera. The lack of a radio signal, he said, could become a safety concern to the staff and public. Another area of concern, Rose said, is the lack of signal in the lower level of the courthouse where inmates are held before appearing in court. Portable radios, he said, are not able to connect with the repeater sys- tem from that floor and transport deputies are unable to communi- cate with courthouse security or dispatch if there are problems in the holding area or the elevator. Commissioner John Allen said that the county had not closed the courthouse remodel- ing project yet as final cost fig- ures have not been determined. He also said that the county had been told the radios would work. “We can address it when the building is closed out and know what is left,” he said. “These issues have been in existence for 20 years,” said Commissioner Rod Peterson. “I’m willing to wait another six months. We’ve never had a sig- nal (in these areas).” Commissioner David Erick- son said his only concern was relying on Motorola for guid- ance in fixing the problem since it was their radio system. “If we don’t address it now and we do have an issue in the courthouse,” Rose said, “it would cost a lot more.” The radio system, he said, is proprietary to Motorola and the available grant would not cover the cost of a “second opinion.” The county has already spent a lot of money to install a secu- rity system, he said. Erickson added that despite the fact the problem has existed before “we didn’t know before we had a problem. Now we know.” Board Chair Steven Gray said it appears the county is “missing one key part to make the larger system work.” Ultimately the purchase re- quest was approved on a 3-2 vote with Gray, Erickson and Commissioner Tim Tjosaas voting in favor and Allen and Peterson voting against. Commissioners also ap- proved three recommendations from the Planning and Zoning Commission. A Conditional Use Permit for Jennie-O Turkey Store to allow an expansion of overall manure storage through the replacement and addition to barns with no increase in ani- mal units was approved. A one-year extension of an Interim Use Permit for Randall Reese/Gary Imhoff in Hayfield Township was also approved. They also approved an amend- ment to the Dodge County Zon- ing Ordinance to repeal and re- place language regarding signs to bring the ordinance into com- pliance with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Perhaps she was the reason you can pur- chase gluten free pizzas at Jim- my’s. Mona commented that it has been a steady business and there were lots of advantages to selling pizza. “You can get what you want, when you want and can take it out or eat it here.” She said. “It also won’t cost a fortune to feed a lot of people.” Roger and Mona got into the business because they loved Kas- son and they wanted to promote a family oriented business and provide a safe place for teenagers to work and to hang out. Both the Draheims agreed that the thing they would miss most would be the downtown Christ- mas festivities. Mona would dress up like Mrs. Santa Claus and Roger would be Santa him- self, a jolly old elf baking Christ- mas cookies for all the kids. Last year they baked over 40 dozen cookies for the kids and then helped those kids decorate the cookies right there in the din- ing room. They had over 300 people come through to Christ- mas Carole and harvest the Christmas cookies. Roger had previously been working in tech-services for the Rochester Post-Bulletin before they took over the pizza shop. Lisa, in addition to having been a stay at home mom, has also been a personal trainer and has been a volunteer coach for volleyball, softball and soccer. Overall, the new owners are thrilled at the possibilities of piz- za production. The Jimmy’s Pizza chain is very popular, especially in the Midwest where they boast over 60 franchises. The thing that makes the pizza different than all the rest is the fresh mixed dough from the Dough Shop in Wis- consin, the 100% real cheeses including Mozzarella, Monterey Jack and Parmesan and above all, the secret sauce that couldn’t be divulged by either former or cur- rent owners. Jimmy’s will continue with the same business hours which are posted as: Sunday through Thursday 4-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4-10 p.m. Jimmy’s is a full service pizzeria which can accommodate eat in or take out and they also deliver within the city of Kasson. They can also accommodate parties of up to 32 people and as with all larger parties, you must call ahead to make arrangements. It’s a new slice of life for both the old owners and the new own- ers and they are all hoping that this new chapter will be piled high with delicious toppings and piping hot memories.
