The AJA Gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition of brush drawings by
Maria Lancaster. Maria studied painting at Central St Martins under the
visionary artist Cecil Collins.
Working at high speed with a felt-tip Japanese brush on newsprint, these small
drawings - measuring 140mm x 100mm - have been selected from over 10,000
produced between 2013-2016. Surprising images sometimes emerge out of
these random scribblings, penned at such speed that the mind is cut out of the
process.
Prints have been made from the drawings on archival 90gsm Beech lignin free
paper made on a hundred year old Fourdrinier paper-making machine from the
Frogmore Mill; the world’s oldest mechanised paper mill.
