Induced Degradation (PID).
PID SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION
In 2010, Solon demonstrated the
existence of PID. The only right thing
we could do was to seriously
investigate the possibility of
degradation of our PV assets.
The research was conducted by the
renowned independent research
institute IMEC in collaboration with our
R & D department.
PIDBULL PATENTED TECHNOLOGY
The efforts of the scientific research
resulted in the development of a
patented solution for the PID effect:
Pidbull.
Initially, the new system was extensively
tested on our own industrial solar
plants.
Thanks to the spectacular results and
the increasing demand from fellow
developers, Pidbull was further
perfected. The official certificates
emphasise the high quality standard.

PID is caused by the high potential
difference with respect to earth and
occurs within the panels when the PV
system is in operation.
Due to this potential difference,
electrical charges move through the
materials of the PV module and have a
strong negative influence on the
performance of the PV cell. As a result,
the solar cell will generate less
electricity when it is affected by PID.
ACCELERATED DEGRADATION
PID causes an accelerated and
exponentially expanding degradation
of the performance of a PV park.
The extent to which PID is present, is
random. But in general, the
Performance Ratio of a PV park will
decrease by 2.5% to 30% in the first
years when PID occurs.

Besides testing the level of PID on your
PV installations, Pidbull has 2 powerful

As an investor and project developer,
we only have a few large PV
installations in property. When the PR
of the largest park (1.65 MWp) already
dropped to 75% after only 4 years, we
had to take action. 
The Pidbull test showed us that the
decrease was due to the negative
effects of PID. Thanks to the installation
of Pidbull we were able to repair the
loss. The installation has achieved the
expected PR of 80% again."
As owners, it is our duty to at least
achieve the expected return on our
solar plants. Because of the high solar
irradiation in recent years, the
production exceeded our anticipations.
And yet, the PR of the PV plants
continued to decrease systematically.
This was the reason to do the PID test.
We discovered that 1/3rd
of our solar
parks was suffering from the PID effect.
Thanks to Pidbull, we achieved a 20%
improvement for the most affected
park!

The purpose of the PID Scan
was to examine the extent to
which the PV installation of
Meubelen Verhaegen (Belgium)
could be subject to PID. The
site was installed in 2011 and
includes a rooftop installation
with a capacity of 688 kWp.
Based on a number of parameters,
such as the performance Ratio (PR)
and the distribution of the relative
yields and string voltages of the
inverters, the presence of PID could
be detected. A test was set up on-site
in which inverters were equipped with
Pidbull devices selected on high,
mediocre and poor permance.

ACCOMPANIED BY ENCON[independent engineering agency]
The data of the monitoring
system - relative yields of the
inverters (kWh/kWp) - was
used to compare the period
before and after installing
Pidbull technology.
This analysis shows that Pidbull
resulted in an increased production of
all tested inverters. The increase is
most spectacular in the production of
the worst performing inverters (+ 20%).
But even the high-performance
inverters have a strong increase of
+ 10%. This result was already achieved
after 25 days. The increase will
continue until all inverters have again
reached the maximum level, taking into
account normal degradation due to
ageing.

  • 2. ASSET DEVELOPMENT ASSET MANAGEMENT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT This department is responsible for the development of new projects. After all, investing in renewable energy is believing in the future. This division guarantees the best quality: managing, maintaining and optimising our commercial PV portfolio. Our team of engineers is responsible for innovative solutions concerning Potential Induced Degradation (PID). PID SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION In 2010, Solon demonstrated the existence of PID. The only right thing we could do was to seriously investigate the possibility of degradation of our PV assets. The research was conducted by the renowned independent research institute IMEC in collaboration with our R & D department. PIDBULL PATENTED TECHNOLOGY The efforts of the scientific research resulted in the development of a patented solution for the PID effect: Pidbull. Initially, the new system was extensively tested on our own industrial solar plants. Thanks to the spectacular results and the increasing demand from fellow developers, Pidbull was further perfected.   • 3. PID is caused by the high potential difference with respect to earth and occurs within the panels when the PV system is in operation. Due to this potential difference, electrical charges move through the materials of the PV module and have a strong negative influence on the performance of the PV cell. As a result, the solar cell will generate less electricity when it is affected by PID. ACCELERATED DEGRADATION PID causes an accelerated and exponentially expanding degradation of the performance of a PV park. The extent to which PID is present, is random. But in general, the Performance Ratio of a PV park will decrease by 2.5% to 30% in the first years when PID occurs. What is PID Besides testing the level of PID on your PV installations, Pidbull has 2 powerful functions. PREVENTING PID Pidbull has a preventive effect. Once installed, Pidbull ensures that no yield will ever be lost because of PID. CURING PID Pidbull restores your PID loss permanently. When the PR of the largest park (1.65 MWp) already dropped to 75% after only 4 years, we had to take action.  The Pidbull test showed us that the decrease was due to the negative effects of PID. Thanks to the installation of Pidbull we were able to repair the loss. The installation has achieved the expected PR of 80% again." As owners, it is our duty to at least achieve the expected return on our solar plants. Because of the high solar irradiation in recent years, the production exceeded our anticipations. And yet, the PR of the PV plants continued to decrease systematically. This was the reason to do the PID test. We discovered that 1/3rd of our solar parks was suffering from the PID effect. Thanks to Pidbull, we achieved a 20% improvement for the most affected park!   • 7. The purpose of the PID Scan was to examine the extent to which the PV installation of Meubelen Verhaegen (Belgium) could be subject to PID. The site was installed in 2011 and includes a rooftop installation with a capacity of 688 kWp. Based on a number of parameters, such as the performance Ratio (PR) and the distribution of the relative yields and string voltages of the inverters, the presence of PID could be detected. A test was set up on-site in which inverters were equipped with Pidbull devices selected on high, mediocre and poor permance. PID SCAN ACCOMPANIED BY ENCON[independent engineering agency] The data of the monitoring system - relative yields of the inverters (kWh/kWp) - was used to compare the period before and after installing Pidbull technology. This analysis shows that Pidbull resulted in an increased production of all tested inverters. The increase is most spectacular in the production of the worst performing inverters (+ 20%). But even the high-performance inverters have a strong increase of + 10%. This result was already achieved after 25 days. The increase will continue until all inverters have again reached the maximum level, taking into account normal degradation due to ageing. RESULTS OF THE PID SCAN
