Hello,
My name is Marco, I'm a UX designer.
I started my design career in advertising.
I used to design for the largest chain of shopping malls in the Philippines.
I've helped sell consumer goods, college education, trucks, formula milk, vitamins..
While doing traditional advertising I've worked long nights.
I thought wait, this can't be it! So I started to design for myself and print-on-demand shops as an outlet for creativity.
I made original images, intricate ones, simple ones, silly and cute images.
But that doesn't make much..
I then traveled to Singapore to work for an integrated marketing agency.
I've stayed there for a year and so designing for other businesses.
Next, I worked in-house for a B2B software and professional services company.
In there I mocked up software screens, created branding and identity, did marketing materials. I tried out front-end coding, UX design and product management.
It was during this time in a corporate environment a few years ago that I squeezed in a lot of reading and a Yoga Teachers Training. After much enlightenment, I decided to reinvent myself.
No, I did not want to be a yoga teacher. Instead I became a UX designer, leveraging on my existing design skills.
User experience is at the intersection of business goals and user needs.
It has foundations in design thinking, basically asking lots of questions.
It's a bit different from how most people view design. It's a structured process in approaching challenges.
First you get to know your audience via user research, then you synthesize the findings, frame problem, and plan out the design.
Only then will you work on tangible deliverables like wireframes, mock ups and prototypes. It also involves usertesting and iterations.
To improve, I have participated in hackathons like Startup Weekend where you are given only 54 hrs to deliver a prototyped idea.
To sum up, For companies who value user experience, I am a designer who has worked more than a decade in advertising, marketing and product design. Open to opportunities and challenges.
I prepared a quick prototype of myself and my contact details. You can access it via bit.ly/contact-marco
