2. • Pre-requisite Subjects: Thermodynamics 2
• Reference Book: Introduction to Internal Combustion Engineering, by
Richard Stone (Dept of Engineering Science, University of Oxford), 3rd ed.
1999.
• Course Objectives:
The course deals with principles involved in combustion, carburetion, and
fuel injection; fundamentals and basic principles of combustion processes,
compression and combustion charts, fuels, manifolds engine components,
engine performance and combustion engine design.
3. Course Learning Outcomes:
• Explain basic combustion and stoichiometric processes.
• Perform stoichiometric analysis of various gaseous and liquid
fuels.
• Apply thermodynamic principles in analyzing the performance
of internal combustion engines.
• Evaluate the principles, operations, maintenance, and design of
internal combustion engines.
4. Course Grading System
ACTIVITIES PERCENTAGES
Quizzes 20%
Assignments/Recitations/Report 20%
Prelims 20%
Midterm Exam 20%
Finals 20%
“Your grades are not what makes you a worthy human being. Free yourself from this burden and enjoy learning.”
5. Class Meetings:
We are conducting our class on a blended (F2F and Online) learning platform.
Major Examinations:
All major examinations are to be held in person in a pre-assigned room.
Students will have the entire class period for the exam. Students who must miss an exam and
want a make-up exam must have a valid excuse and make arrangements beforehand. Make-
up tests will not be given if no prior arrangements are made, except in the direst of
circumstances.
6. Quizzes: The quizzes and short examinations will be conducted in person or online.
Assignments: Assignments will be posted online on MS Teams “General” Channel. You
are required to turn in the assignments ( in pdf file) on due dates, on the ”Assignment”
Channel. Late homework will be accepted, however, late assignments will lose credit on
the following schedule:
1 day -10%
2 days -20%
3 days – 50%
4 days – 75%
1 week late – no credit
Be ready for class recitations and pop quizzes.
7. Examinations/Quizzes Online Camera Protocol
• During quizzes and examinations, the camera must be open.
• If you are using a desktop with a separate camera, position it on the side where I can see
you and the monitor display.
• If you are using a laptop or a tablet, place a mirror behind or a second device camera
where I can see you and the monitor display.
• Never at any time, change the monitor display during online quizzes.
