◦ After The death of Genghis khan, The empire was
divided into 4 parts. One part came under Kublai
Khan who found Yuan dynasty and made Beijing
the capital.
◦ After a few centuries Ming dynasty overthrew
them and forced them to go to the home state of
Mongolia.
◦ After several dynasty changes, reunification of the
country, Alliances with countries such as USSR and
Tensions with Republic of China and Japan,
Mongolia was finally formed on February 13,
1992.
 Mongolia is known as the "Land of the Eternal Blue Sky" or "Country
of Blue Sky" because it has over 250 sunny days a year.
 Most of the country is hot in the summer and extremely cold in the
winter, with January averages dropping as low as −30 °C (−22 °F).
 A vast front of cold, heavy, shallow air comes in from Siberia in winter
and collects in river valleys and low basins causing very cold
temperatures while slopes of mountains are much warmer due to
the effects of temperature inversion (temperature increases with
altitude).
 In winter the whole of Mongolia comes under the influence of
the Siberian Anticyclone. The country is subject to occasional harsh
climatic conditions known as zud. The annual average temperature in
Ulaanbaatar is −1.3 °C/29.7 °F.
 Mongolian cuisine is rooted in their nomadic history,
and thus includes a lot of dairy and meat, but little
vegetables. Two of the most popular dishes are buuz (a
meat filled steamed dumpling) and khuushuur (a sort
of deep-fried meat pie).
 Tsaagan Sar: Mongolian Lunar new year
 Khovsgol Ice festival: Celebrated in march
with temperatures as low as -15 degrees.
 Gobi came festival: Celebrates endangered
Bactrian Camels. Camel racing, Polo, dancing
are attractions of this annual event.
 Naadam festival: Celebrated in Summer all
over Mongolia, it includes wrestling, horse
racing and Archery.
 Economic activity in Mongolia has traditionally been based
on herding and agriculture, although development of
extensive mineral deposits of copper, coal, molybdenum,
tin, tungsten, and gold have emerged as a driver of
industrial production.
 Besides mining (21.8% of GDP) and agriculture (16% of
GDP), dominant industries in the composition of GDP are
wholesale and retail trade and service, As of 2006, 68.4%
of Mongolia's exports went to the PRC, and the PRC
supplied 29.8% of Mongolia's imports.
 Mongolia is ranked as lower middle income economy by
the World Bank. Some 22.4% of the population lives on less
than US$1.25 a day.
 In 2003, the UNESCO listed the Uvs Lake Basin as a
natural World Heritage Site. It was nominated as "one of the
largest intact watersheds in Central Asia where 40,000
archaeological sites can be found from historically famous
nomadic tribes such as the Scythians, the Turks and
the Huns. This trans boundary patrimony between Russia and
Mongolia is one of the largest sites inscribed in the World
Heritage List to date.
 Always accept if food or drink is offered, as it is considered rude to refuse
 Receive everything with two hands or with the right hand supported by the
other at the wrist or elbow
 Elders are highly respected and should be greeted first. Remember not to
walk in front of an older person, that is considered extremely rude
 Hosts are often late and this should not be taken as a sign of disrespect
 Mongolians do not view formal contracts in the same way as other business
cultures. They tend to see these agreements as something that can be
altered should circumstances change
 The Mongolian business culture is dominated by men, although the number
of women in executive positions is increasing steadily, particularly in foreign
companies
 The giving of small, inexpensive gifts is customary at the conclusion of an
agreement
 Drinks are also customary and some toasts with a shot of vodka are
expected. It is acceptable to decline after a couple of shots
 When entering a conference room, turn to your host for advice on where to
sit
 Mongolian empire was the world’s largest
contiguous empire.
 Surprisingly, there was no word for “soldier”
in Mongol Language
 Based on DNA profiling, 1 in every 200 men
is a descendant of Genghis Khan.
