Karma is a word of ancient origin meaning every action or activity that leads to a subsequent result.
Like love, happiness and sadness have different meanings in different cultures and religions,
people also have different concepts about karma. It is commonly understood as an entire cycle of
Cause and Effect as described in the philosophies of a number of religions such as Hinduism,
Jainism, and Buddhism.
The philosophy of karma is based on the concept that whatever experiences humans go though in
their lives, either good, bad or neutral, are actually the result of their previous
deeds. Karma is not about vengeance, punishment or reward. Karma simply
deals with what is. The effects of all deeds actively create past, present and
future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain
and joy it brings to others. In this way, people connect various things like getting
sick, meeting the love of one's life, getting into car accidents, all to the workings of karma.
In Buddhism they believe that everything that happens to us is ultimately due to our own influence,
whether intentional or not, and that coincidence is in reality an illusion.
People who believe in karma also believes in the simultaneity of cause and
effect which means that the moment we do something in our life, it becomes the
cause for the future effect and that future effect becomes the cause for the later
effect and so on. It’s actually the infinite karma that doesn’t end even when you
die rather it continues on into your next lives. In Hinduism and Buddhism, people believe in the
concept of multiple lives. When they see someone suffering in their life, they simply label it as the
effect of the bad deeds that they committed in their previous lives. Karma is actually a very
complex concept since you can never tell which cause is responsible for which effect.
