Bielsku-Białej) - a university located in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, established in
2001. It was previously part of the Technical University of Łódź.
The University of Bielsko-Biała was founded in October 2001 as an
independent governmental academic institution. Previously it was a branch
of Łódź University of Technology, founded in 1969 at the request of the
Bielsko-Biała industrial region. At present there are 10,000 students in the
university. The machine-building, electrical and textile industries are
traditional for the region, so the main courses of education have been long-
established. As the economy changed, the university naturally followed,
developing new faculties such as Management, Environmental Protection,
Information Sciences and Humanities. The university employs an
experienced academic staff: professors and other experts from the region,
who deliver lectures and carry out research. The number of the academic
staff is growing constantly. At present, it comprises about 350 people,
including about 160 professors and doctors.
The University is situated in a city that can be easily arrived in. Bielsko is in
equal distance from Prague, Warsaw and Vienna. In addition, it's a very
attractive tourist region. There are few regions in Poland with such values.
Nice atmosphere, friendly attitude towards students, chance to undergo
trainings in interesting companies. It is characteristic of the Bielsko Region
that many foreign companies have their headquarters in the neighborhood
of Bielsko-Biała. There are also many foreigners who work in the Bielsko
Region. These students who can possibly take up a job in Poland or branch
offices of foreign concerns can undergo such training here.

Educational System in Poland:
Primary Education
1 year of preschool education to stimulate primary reading skills and mathematics is
compulsory. Thereafter children move on to primary school from ages 7 to 12. The first
cycle of grades 1 – 3 are beginner phases (with a single teacher), while grades 4 – 6
introduce systemic learning. Subjects include art and music, crafts and technology, Polish, mathematics, .social and
natural environment and physical education. Primary and secondary education are free.
Secondary Education
There are 2 streams in secondary education. General schools provide an education designed to dock with university
programs. Vocational schools produce qualified workers while also providing general education.
Vocational Education
Should they wish to, students at vocational schools may proceed to post-secondary schools where they are trained as
accountants , administrators, computer specialists, nurses and librarians, to mention but a few.
Tertiary Education
Polish tertiary institutions include universities, economic and agricultural academies, and polytechnics. Warsaw is the
primary academic centre in Poland and consequently attracts the largest number of academics.
