Law Alumni Newsletter March 2010 NEW COURSES ON THE HORIZON W224 Relationships, families and the law is a new course starting in November 2010 which examines the role of law in the context of modern relationships and family life. It will cover issues such as marriage, divorce, living together and the law relating to children as well as related issues of tax, family property and inheritance. If you would like more information about this course please click on the link. urse/w224.htm WU822 Business, human rights law and corporate social responsibility is the Centre for Law’s first course at postgraduate level. It will be presented in May 2011 and will form part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Human Rights and Development Management award. This 30 point course will cover such issues of human rights law emerging from the business context. For more information about the course and the certificate please visit the link lification/c96.htm OU REACHES FINAL OF NATIONAL MOOTING COMPETITION The Open University mooting team has won through to the national final of the prestigious ICLR Weekly Law Reports mooting tournament. This is a fantastic achievement. The victorious team comprising of students Gareth Edwards, Julian King, Richard Wilcock and Richard Evans took part in the semi-final held in the wonderful environment of the Large Pension Room at Gray’s Inn against Birkbeck College, in front of the judge His Honour Judge Hodge QC. The final is on 31st March at The Law Society, Chancery Lane, London where the OU will face Exeter University.
  2. 2. MASTERS NEWS The Centre for Law is in the process of developing a masters award. At present WU822 is the only course that will be available at post-graduate level but the Centre is hoping to grow and eventually provide a masters award (LLM).
