Joe Cocker was an English rock and blues singer who came to popularity in the 1960s known for his gritty voice and spasmodic performances. He was born in 1944 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and received his nickname "Joe" from either his father or fighting as a child. Joe Cocker died in 2014 at his home in Crawford, Colorado at the age of 70 from lung cancer.
