A linear differential equation is a differential equation that is linear in the unknown function and its derivatives. Linear differential equations include equations containing the first, second, third or higher order derivatives of the unknown function (and previous derivatives) in a linear fashion. These types of equations have important applications in many areas of science, engineering and economics.
