Subject: The Art of Resume Writing
Let's face it, finding a job can be a challenge for anyone seeking employment, especially if you
are between jobs. And for US Military Service men and women it is no different. In fact,
military members often have a greater challenge--how to present their military skills in a resume
so that civilian hiring managers can see how their skills are transferrable to the private sector.
What may be challenging to some is no problem for Cyrus Weston.
Cyrus is a professional military resume writer and has written the book on how it is done -
literally. He writes resumes, cover letters, bios, and curriculum vitas for service men and
women. He also helps clients with their job search and provides coaching for successful
interviewing. Cyrus says his skill is in matching experiences and achievements to job
descriptions in such a way that the resume does not read like a job description. In addition, he
provides one-on-one coaching and interviewing tips. He also creates a client job site and helps
with developing job search strategies. Cyrus says what sets him apart from the competition is his
ability to effectively break down resumes with supporting documents to create a smarter resume
that minimizes weaknesses and highlights achievements. And Cyrus believes his ability to write
effective resumes are a gift. He began writing resumes for friends and family, and when he
realized the resumes were getting those interviews, he began to take his profession more
seriously.
In April 2010, he started Cyrus' Resume Service and began a home-based business. He said,
people have asked him why he writes resumes when job seekers can go to the unemployment
office and get a free resume. His response, "I am gifted, I write executive type resumes for
everyday people the unemployment office doesn't unless you are an executive." Cyrus is very
passionate about helping job seekers and especially those who have been disenfranchised. He
says his book; "The Smart Resume Book" is simple to read and gets people motivated about
creating a new resume and getting job interviews. Cyrus said one reason for writing "The Smart
Resume Book" was because he had found other resume writing books did not address some of
the issues and challenges that he believe are unique to minorities.
Cyrus says his book enables the job seeker to dissect the resume to better understand each
component and why they are important, so they can understand the makeup of the resume and
not just the format. He goes on to say, "I can take information given to me by the customer and
find future information and reshape their resume into what the interviewer and the hiring
2. authority are looking for." After almost a decade of resume writing service, countless job
seekers have benefited from Cyrus' help. Through his efforts, he has been able to influence
decision-makers in high ranking positions and get client referrals as far away as Japan.
Here is how it works. Job seekers view his book online, and then contact him on his cell or
through LinkedIn for his resume services. His client list extends from NC, SC, GA, FL, CO,
MA, TX, and Afghanistan and, of course, Japan. Cyrus says he is most grateful to God for
allowing him to be successful financially prior to starting his resume services. His key to
financial success is tithing, investing 10 percent in him, spending conservatively, and investing
in dividend-paying stocks that have no negative cash balance in their profile.
As a successful author, Cyrus also offers tips to anyone interested in becoming an author. His
advice, "Keep a pen and paper handy to jot down your thoughts. All writers do this because you
won't remember 100 percent of what you had thought about minutes later. I think the best
thoughts are the ones that are the first thought of the day." Apparently, he has taken his own
advice. Cyrus is currently working on publishing a second book about career growth and has his
eye on becoming a motivational speaker.
