1. Are the traditional houses a landmark of Seia municipality or are they infrastructures
that make the landscape unpleasant?
2. In what areas - economy, environment, culture - do you think traditional houses
have a more relevant and positive impact? And in what way?
3. It is well known that Portugal has witnessed an almost tragic scenario of youth
emigration, with a tendency to increase. Can traditional houses and their renovation
influence this migratory flow, as young people remain in the Seia municipality? And in
what way?
4. Is the Town Council developing any initiative in the area of conservation and
renovation of traditional houses? If so, what is the action plan defined and what effect
has it produced?
5. Do you think that the population of the Seia municipality is aware of the importance
of preserving traditional houses? If so, how has the Council taken advantage of this
awareness to promote, defend and maximize traditional houses?
6. The renovation of traditional houses is an investment that brings some financial
costs. Do you think these costs are a waste or that they are worth it?
7. Is there any policy to support the preservation and construction of traditional
houses or houses with regional materials?
8. The landscape is an important factor in the region’s tourism, even when humanized.
What type of initiatives has the town council developed to protect villages where the
traditional features still prevail?
9. Are there rules that aim to protect traditional houses? If not, do you think they
could be relevant and feasible to implement?
10. How does the Town Council work with the local parish councils (where most of the
traditional houses are located) in order to increase investment in favor of these
houses?
11. Some traditional houses have been used for tourism. What are the main obstacles
to the development of this type of tourism? How could those obstacles be overcome?
12. Last year we inquired the owners of these traditional houses about their yearly
occupation and we concluded that it was seasonal, concentrated in the winter. We
asked about the existence of some summer activities, but none of the owners of the
houses knew about them. In which way is the communication with these people
made?
