· Avoiding Unauthorized Practice of Law
It is widely known that utilizing paralegals is a frequent concern for practicing attorneys, especially when a paralegal’s actions may leave them performing tasks (e.g., advising on legal rights, negotiation or settlement, management of a law practice, etc.) which could result in the unauthorized practice of law. Per the American Bar Association, one must possess a law license in order to perform such tasks.
Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you:
1. Determine three (3) most important characteristics of an effective paralegal. Justify your response.
2. Develop at least three (3) general guidelines for conducting legal research that a new paralegal should follow on in order to ensure that the attorney for whom the paralegal works is referencing valid laws within his / her legal documents.
3. Propose two (2) strategies that a paralegal could take in order to avoid the unauthorized practice of law. Provide a rationale to support your response.
4. Compare and contrast the key differences between the activities of paralegals versus those of attorneys in preparing a case for trial.
5. Use at least two (2) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
. Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
. Analyze what paralegals do, the career choices available to paralegals, their role in the legal profession, and the need for continuing education and training.
. Examine the paralegal workplace, tasks, and functions of a paralegal and accounting procedures in the law office.
. Use technology and information resources to research issues in paralegal studies.
. Write clearly and concisely about paralegal studies using proper writing mechanics.

create a proposal in order to hire additional officers for the
department. To complete this assignment, you will want to
include information from five (5) categories such as community
information, the current organization, the marketing strategy,
prospective officer job requirements, and the selection
8. process.
More details are provided for these categories below:

Academic Integrity Policy is available through the myCSU
portal and through this course. Students are encouraged to
contact the Success Center at [email protected], which is a
valuable resource available to assist with
academic writing and APA formatting.

this assignment is provided below.
Unit III Article Review
In this lesson police corruption and police ethics are discussed.
This assignment provides you with an opportunity to
further explore one of these topics by reviewing an article on
this matter. Through the CSU Online Library, locate one
article from a professional journal. This article should be no
more than four (4) years old and at least three (3) pages in
length. Topics may be any of the following:
10. policies and procedures, training, supervision,
organizational culture, or early warning systems
If you are unsure if the article selected meets these
requirements, please contact your professor. The purpose of an
article review is to let other readers know what the work is
about so that they may decide whether they want to read the
work. Other readers probably have not read the article, so the
review should not only describe the work, but also evaluate
it. Include each of the following within your article review:
1. An introduction to the article
2. The key points from the article
3. A summary of the article’s conclusion
4. An evaluation of the article, to include:
a. Why is this article important?
b. Should others read it?
c. Was the article well-written (organized, easy to understand,
etc.)?
d. What is your perspective and opinion on the article?
The completed article review has to be a minimum of three (3)
full pages in length, not including the title page, abstract,
and reference page. The article review should be written in
paragraph format. This article review requires APA style
formatting, including the citing of key points and material
utilizing in-text citations and references.
11. Before beginning, students should review the sample APA paper
located in the myCSU portal. Papers will be submitted
for electronic evaluation to determine any possible academic
integrity violations. The Academic Integrity Policy is available

Unit V Case Study
In order to prepare for this case study, you will need to review
Chapter 13, “Police and the Law” in your textbook. Analyze
and explain the use of the Exclusionary Rule by the Supreme
Court of the United States. Define how the Exclusionary
Rule has affected the use of evidence acquired from police
search and seizure cases. Compare and contrast each of the
following cases and the effects that the ruling decision by the
Supreme Court has had on evidence obtained from police
search and seizure. What constitutes a reasonable search? How
is search and seizure governed by the
Fourth Amendment? How do you feel that the police could
have completed their searches in these cases more
efficiently?
12. Prepare your case study on the following three cases:
– Exclusionary rule applied to
federal law enforcement agencies
– Exclusionary rule applied to all
cases involving extreme police misconduct
– Exclusionary rule applied to all law
enforcement agencies (local, state, and federal)
The completed assignment must be a minimum of five pages in
length, not including the title page and reference list. You
must include at least 5 references. The entire case study
assignment must be written following APA style guidelines.
Therefore, the APA rules for formatting, quoting, paraphrasing,
citing, and listing of sources are to be followed.

Blackboard Grading Rubrics
Assignment Rubrics
One or more assignments in this course utilizes a Blackboard
Grading Rubric. A rubric is a tool that lists evaluation criteria
and can help you organize your efforts to meet the requirements
of an assignment. Your professor will use the Blackboard
Grading Rubric to assign points and provide feedback for the
assignment.
You are encouraged to view the assignment rubric before
submitting your work. This will allow you to review the
evaluation criteria as you prepare your assignments. You may
access the rubric in “My Grades” through the “Tools” button
in your course menu. Click the “View Rubric” link to see the
evaluation criteria for the assignment. Upon receiving your
assignment grade, you may view your grade breakdown and
feedback in the rubric.
CSU Grading Rubrics for Papers/Projects, Discussion Boards,
and Assessments
16. The Learning Resource area of the myCSU Student Portal
provides the rubrics, and information on how to use them, for
Discussion Boards, written response questions in Unit
Assessments, and Research Papers/Projects.
The course writing assignments will be graded based on the
CSU Grading Rubric for all types of writing assignments,
unless otherwise specified within assignment instructions. In
addition, all papers will be submitted for electronic evaluation
to rule out plagiarism. Course projects will contain project
specific grading criteria defined in the project directions.
To view the rubrics, click the Academic Policies link on the
Course Menu, or access it through the CSU Grading Rubric
link found in the Learning Resources area of the myCSU
Student Portal.
Final Examination Guidelines
Final Exams are to be administered to students by an approved
Proctor. CSU approves two, flexible proctoring options: a
standard Proctor, who is chosen by the student and approved by
the university, or Remote Proctor Now (RP Now), an on-
demand, third-party testing service that proctors examinations
for a small fee.
A standard Proctor is an unbiased, qualified individual who is
selected by the student and agrees to supervise an
examination. You are responsible for selecting a qualified
Proctor, and the Proctor must be pre-approved by CSU.
Students choosing RP Now must have an operational
webcam/video with audio, a high-speed internet connection, and
17. the appropriate system rights required to download and install
software.

(paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying
citations). You may use the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association (APA Style Guide) or the
CSU Citation Guide for reference.
