2. WHY NUTRITION RESONATES WITH
ME
Fueling your body with the right foods can change your entire day.
When you’re eating natural energizing foods you will be in a better
mood, have more motivation, and just all in all feel better. My family
has turned our nutrition habits around after my mom fought off her
breast cancer. The doctors told her to take Tamoxifen, to reduce the
chance of her cancer coming back. Tamoxifen has a number of side
effects and only reduces your risk by half. After many days of
research my mom decided not to take the daily pill, and to reduce
her risk by eating foods that essentially do the same thing without
the side effects. Her risk is reduced to 10% because of the change in
her eating habits. This showed me that what we eat is such a big
deal, and if there are foods that have such great benefits to our
bodies, we need to be consuming more of them.
3. NATURAL ENERGIZING
FOODS
Bananas
Fatty Fish: salmon or tuna
Brown Rice
Sweet Potatoes
Eggs
Apples
Water
Dark Chocolate
Goji Berries
Quinoa
Oatmeal
Yogurt
Hummus
Strawberries
Seeds: chia seeds and flaxseeds
Beans
Green Tea
Nuts
Popcorn
Leafy green Vegetables: spinach
and kale
Beets
Oranges
Avocado
Lentils
Edamame
All of these foods are great sources of nutrients
and natural energy boosters. These foods are
going to help with the increase of your health
as well as your stamina whether it’s from the
carbs they are packed with for readily available
energy, or the fiber and protein for a slow
steady energy boost. Not to mention all the
vitamins and minerals these foods contain.
Adding these foods into your diet will ensure a
more energized and motivated day.
4. BUY LOCALLY A local farmers market you can shop is the
Downtown Puyallup Farmers Market,
located in Pioneer Park and in the Pioneer
Pavilion 330 South Meridian Downtown
Puyallup.
They are open April 20 - October 12
Saturdays 9:00am - 2:00pm

Whenever you can, try and buy
your produce locally instead of
from big corporations such as
Fred Myers and Safeway. Going
to farmers markets is fun, and a
great help to local businesses,
and farmers. You are not only
helping out your community,
you are also helping out your
body. Big stores treat their
produce with chemicals to
make them last longer. Buying
from a local farmers market
usually means the produce is
chemical free.
5. AMERICAN DIET
• 15 million households in
America don’t have access to
enough food to feed all
members of the household
• 3 out of 4 people in America
won’t eat a single fruit in a day
• 9 out of 10 people in America
won’t meet the recommended
vegetable intake in a day
• Adults in America intake about
3,400mg of sodium a day (the
recommended sodium intake
is less than 2,300mg a day)
The American diet is in a crisis and
part of that can be attributed to
poverty. Food insecurity is a big
issue in America and around the
world. Families don’t have access to
food and can’t support their family.
15% of American families residing in
rural areas deal with food insecurity,
compared to 11% of American
families in suburban and
metropolitan areas.
People of color experience food
insecurity at the highest risk, 22.5%
of Black families, and 18.5% of
Hispanic families.
In 2017 households with children
experienced food insecurity at a rate
of 15.7% compared to households
